So CNN is reporting that during a phone call between trump and the Canadian prime minister, trump is supposed to have asked "you guys Burnt down the White House didn't you ?"the phone call was about the tarrifs btw I mean for Christ sake lads I'm not even American and I know it wasn't Canada it was the British during the war of 1812. Canada wasn't even a country until 1867(they celebrated 150 years last year) I mean how is a us president apparently this wilfully ignorant on history ? On his own country's history and history of the building he calls home ?

DT has pardoned Alice Johnson, for whom Kim Kardashian had campaigned on behalf off.

Remember KK has 60 million twitter followers, 60 million followers all getting the same upbeat news about DT.
Perhaps the sum of all these small but real victories is why Trumps rating among black American males is on the up.

it was surely never envisaged that the pardon power was to be used for such mundane cases. obv not for the individual concerned but are people really happy with a POTUS that will get directly involved depending on access to him?
Has Trump decision anything to do with the recent support from Kanye and the tweets from Kim, basically he will do whatever you want if you offer him something?
will Trump now look to get involved in all drug cases, is he trying to suggest that all 1st time offenders should be given a pardon?
and surely people can see how easily Trump was bought by Kim on this issue and why would people not think that Trump is happy to be bought over other issues?

I read recently that usually Presidential pardons are vetted by a committee before they are brought to the President for the actual signing of the pardon.

There have obviously been exceptions to that in the past - Bush Jr and Clinton both pardoned people personally in the latter days of their Presidencies (Scooter Libby for one) , but Trump is the first to pardon people so early in his tenure , he's also never spoken to the Pardon Committee for any of them.

Serious action on large numbers of people (like Obama) does not generate as much sympathy. Individual stories like these or Carrier do. Of course now the US justice system is dependent on the number of retweets you can get so there is that.

Mass releases won't happen with Trump though. The prison system makes too much money and remember prisoners are the loop hole in the slave laws (and this is something neither side has touched to my knowledge).

Edit: that last bit is more anti American law as opposed to anti Trump. I have no issue with this particular release. More with the fact that it was done for retweets as opposed to a wider policy that could have a larger effect.

Also, only recently Trump was calling for the death penalty for drug dealers, yet he pardoned this woman who was convicted of conspiracy to sell cocaine. He has given no reason why (not that he has to) but one would hope he had a specific reason such as old law, exceptional circumstances etc.
There can't be any other reason for the pardon except for he did it do court celebrity. Kim comes in waving her Twitter followers around, Kanye does some PR guff and voila Trump just happens to decide that he will do what they want.
How any of his supporters can welcome this, yet at the same time claim that there is no suspicion that he would sell out to Putin is beyond me. The man basically defines pay-for-play

Just before I opened up Boards I saw a TV interview piece by Rudy while he is/was in Israel and the clip referencing forcing Kim to his hands and knees was part of the interview. Rudy was saying that the way Israel should treat the Palestinian Authority was the way the US treated Kim, get them on their hands and knees begging.

Ref the way Don is handling the pardoning of convicted federal felons, it's possible that he is trying to outdo the record of pardons given set by other presidents, maybe in particular his predecessor as he seem's to want to break all of Barak Obama's presidential actions. Put it down to his fascination with Barak's actions in office, him seeing them as wins.

No he is trying to show potential witnesses that he can pardon whoever he wants so they don't need to worry about obstruction charges. He is throwing in the odd chartiable pardon as a kind of buffer. You don't agree with my friend being pardoned? You must also want that great grandmother to rot in jail.
