Technically speaking these are parameters rather than statistics.

Parameters are the figures for an entire population whereas statistics are based on taking a sample of said population.

No it doesn't. If there is 20000 Gardaí in total and the ratio of male to female is 3/1, then there are estimated 5000 female Gardai. If 49% of those married a male Gardaí. That be slightly less than 2500.

as above it is not cleasr if it is 49% of female guards or 49% of married female guards

Would have a big influence on these numbers , it also leads to even more group think from the organization , a problem it is very clear to see in the latest scandals and problems .

It must be very stressful. A family works better with the stability of knowing at least one parent will be at home at certain times and can plan accordingly imo.

I used to be a marine biologist. My gf is a marine biologist and most marine biologists I know are with other marine biologists.

Its the lifestyle really. Its a field with an almost 50:50 split of male and female and most would have similar interests like scuba diving , sailing, surfing etc.

They say the Olympic games are a hotbed of sexual encounters. Ha! See what happens when you've got a bunch of marine biologists on a ship for a few weeks or stuck on some island somewhere.
