They promised unrestricted abortion up to twelve weeks if the amendment was repealed, simple as, so that's what they'll regard as having been voted for today. You're right in that if it's a slim victory some TDs and senators may attempt to dilute the bill during committee and report stage out of standard political "controversy jitters", but I sincerely doubt it would be anywhere near enough individuals to significantly water down or delay the bill.

You are away with the fairies if you think that two exit polls that concur with each other are both massively out.

The real count may well produce a vote for yes in excess of 70%.

The result is so overwhelming that the proposed legislation will be further fleshed out and only have minor technical amendments to help it function.

Abortion on demand is it?

If there was ever a phrase that sums up why your side lost, that's it.

Abortion is not something anyone ever considers unless they absolutely have to. You would want to be in total dire straits to consider having an abortion. Whether that's mentally, physically, financially or otherwise, abortion is your last option.

No one demands abortion and no one feels good about it.

It's sick lies and rhetoric like this that made people vote yes to cancelling the abhorrent 8th amendment.

To me terminating a pregnancy you are not prepared for is the responsible thing.

I'm speaking only for myself and my nearest and dearest. I wouldn't dare presume the motivation of other voters. Nothing has changed,legislation still has to be agreed upon but with such a large majority it will be harder to go against the will of the people.

So you can't accept, that maybe one person in the last 30 years in Britain, may have lied about having mental health problems in an effort to abort a healthy baby in the second trimester? I think you will find the majority of the public knew what they were voting for they are not stupid. I'm sure if anyone was against any of what has been proposed they would of had no choice but to vote no.

No, it's young people bowing to peer pressure and not being able to think for themselves. A mob mentality among youth voters even saw a pro life student union president thrown out.

I am only a year outside that age group and am glad to know that I was true to my thought in how I voted.

Ye, they did say that, because that is what the vote was. Repeal for the hard cases and validate the legislation or nothing. Many who are pro-choice voted for the hard cases, some didn't. Abortion on demand doesn't have a national majority in favour, so we got an all or no vote instead

The proposed legislation provides for unrestricted abortion up to 12 weeks. You knew that right? Its not a lie, its written in black and white.
