Frank McDonagh from Rahoon, Galway was jailed for 8 years with 18 months suspended after he slashed two people in the head with a pizza knife during an attempted robbery. He had 90 previous convictions and yet his family defend him on Facebook and insist he just made a mistake.

Fair play to the fella who intervened. Could've been a lot worse if he hadn't.

All those charges and ultimately it's a 6.5 years sentence. Less one-third remission and just over a year in custody already and he'll be out in 4 years. Disgusting.

I am speaking from experience here....I was slashed in the face with a stanley knife (I was lucky not to lose an eye)...the physical scars heel, but you are never the same again.

It's Stockholm Syndrome.

If you had a family member who was a violent psychopath capable of slashing people's faces would you tell them that they're a violent psychopath? You'd be a brave person to confront someone like that. The reality is it might be you who get's their face slashed instead of other's and thus it is in your best interest to defend or stand up for that person to the amazement and incredulity of other people.

The most irritating part of it is that were you to explain very rationally that slashing people's face with a pizza knife isn't kewl then the syndrome part is where they attack you for stating the bleeding obvious. The psychology being if they agree with you, then you might tell and there might be consequences. A defense mechanism so to speak. It's like a say a wife who get's slapped around by her husband and when a friend looks to support her finds themselves turned on with excuses such as 'well at least he doesn't punch me with his fists' or 'he's under a lot of stress'. Logic and rationality goes out the window.

Sure he was probably just out looking for some unattended, uncut pizza. Can't think of any other reason a man would walk around at night time with a 4 inch blade. Thankfully he only permanently scarred them and didn't murder anyone.
