Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

Did you retrofit the wider idrive screen? Maybe it's the standard screen and looks bigger in the pictures.

D'Shed performed a 2 day detail on my car over the weekend and I'm delighted with the results.

Good clean recently. Nothing major, just two bucket wash, dry and some wheel dressing.

Car was ceramic coated back in January and strangely Im noticing that already its not beading as well. Anyone know if this is down to washing too frequently? It usually gets a hand wash every 2 weeks.

I thought I added some pics with that last post.

Anyhow
This week I visited my son and his fiancée at their house.
Armed with some goodies My son and I set about cleaning his fiancée's Fiat 500,
never took before pics,
It was literally covered in dead flies on the front and windscreen etc, and muck up to the door handles and around the rear.
Snow foamed with VP Ph neutral snow foam
De tarred ~ De Ironed
Washed with Insta Finish Super Foam Shampoo
Had no clay so Polished it with Meguiars cleanser polish followed by a coat of Collinite 845
Glass cleaned ~ front screen treated with Angelwax H2go and side glass treated with RainX
Tyres dressed with CG Tyre and trim gel,
Car is possibly getting replaced soon and deal is as good as done so enough done here

Next up was my sons MX5 project.
Paint was a bit neglected ( Not bad for 20 year old though )
So similar process
Foam ~De tar ~ De Iron ~ Wash ~ Polish as above with a Lidl Parkside polisher that a neighbour gave him

~ Waxed with ODK Sterling wax~ Tyres dressed with CG Tyre and trim gel
Not looking too shabby now.

Didnt do much with the bumpers and mirrors as they need some painting.

I also thought they were going to be a shade darker.
Easy to clean though which is a big plus.

One thing loved on the mark 3 was the zetec s 17s now they looked the part and remember the guards have a few and one around the rathfarnham area being red....

Yeah, I specced the 19's on it but being honest I was disappointed a bit as at times I look at them and feel they don't look much different than the 17" version.
I also thought they were going to be a shade darker.

Beading not too bad after the rain.
But unfortunately Rain and wind brings dust

Nothing major.
Last September I gave the car 2 coats of Fusso,
Since then it has only been occasional washes.
Sometimes in the local jet wash to blast it down.
Held up well but as yesterday was a good day I decided it was a good time to re do it.

Pressure washer is broken to up to the local jetwash,
Lance with a mix of Sno foam and apc solution,
Sprayed the car, wheels etc.
Rinsed it off,
Home, Out with the hose and washing items.
Hosed it down, wash,rinse,dry, wash wheels + dry,Cleanse polish with Megauirs cleansing polish, buff, 1 very light coat of Fusso applied with damp applicator, Buff, Polish glass, Dress tyres,
Job done.

Looks as good as day one. :cool:

Herselfs car was destroyed in tar and fallout so it got a full de-tar, de-iron and clay bar treatment, finished with some C2V3 as didn't have time to put anything else on but I think it should suffice. Then a quick de-tar and wash on mine then. Hadn't done anything myself for ages, had forgotten how long it takes

Need to do a clay session on the car! Only just got round to giving it a wash yesterday. Having kids really impacts your detailing hobby (unless you have a garage with lights)

Long day today...

1. Pre-wash with Bilt Hamber snow foam
2. Wheels (Bilt Hamber auto wheel) & Dressing Carpro Perl
3. 2 Bucket wash with Megs Gold Class.
4. Stripped off with Carpro Eraser
5. Detar (Tar x) and Fallout (Bilt Hamber Korrosol)
6. Clayed full car
7. Windows Angelwax Vision
8. Touched up some stone chips and wet sanded a couple of light scratches
9. Polished with Scholl S20 Black and Chemical Guys Hex Green pad
10. One coat of Menzerna Power Lock Ultimate
11. And topped with one coat of Collinite 845

Safe to say I will be in bits tomorrow.

Well, Saturday and Yesterday I did some detailing (and suffered for it!).

Saturday I started with

Wash down with Chemical Guys Honeydew foam and rinsed down
Washed with the 2BM with Bilt Hamber autowash (well, I think that's what it's called)
Dry the bottom half
Detar the bottom half with Tar-X and rinsed off
Bilt Hamber Korrisol on the bottom half and front and rinsed off
Washed again and rinsed
Clayed with a claycloth, glass included
Washed and rinsed again
Finally dried
CarPro Reload on the metal, including awning and bike rack.
CarPro PERL 1:3 on the plastics
CarPro PERL 1:5 on the habitation windows
Wheels were left on, but I pulled the wheel trims off to wash behind them. It was Bilt Hamber Autowheels and CarPro PERL 1:3 on the wheel trims. CarPro PERL 1:1 on the tyres

The claycloth ended up in the bin as a piece of clay came off and marked the paint. Claying with a piece of AG clay that I had left over lifted it off but thankfully it didn't mark or scratch the paint.

The finished article after about 10 hours of almost non stop (well, I had to have lunch and dinner). There was plenty of up ladders, Wheel Woolies taped to poles, a Microfiber Madness Incredipole (Oh what a Godsend!) and skicking hands out roof vents to get at the little lip. Apologies for the crap photos.

Also, I hate the roof rack mounts built into the roof of a Ducato. The Incredipole kept getting caught on them, along with my clothes!

Now to the suffering, when I was cleaning under the awning, I caught the thumb on a metal bracket that had a kinda sharp edge. It sliced the top of the thumb, nail included and lifted a piece of the nail. My cure was to tape it up, wash the blood off and keep going. Before you all start to give out about the bracket being unsafe, just think how many people would be trying to reach in under the mounts from the back to try to clean them....

Sunday was a more "relaxing" day. I got the Escort out from it's slumber, got it started and did the interior carpets and seats with Chemical Guys Interior Shampoo (I can't quite think of the name, it's yella anyway) diluted about 1:8, gently worked it in and hoovered it out. There's no photos of the interior as the garage is too dark (and some idiot parked a motorhome in the way!)

Next on the job list is a Leon, and Octavia and possibly and Escort. Thankfully they are smaller than a Ducato.

But if its not needing paint, then you shouldnt have to have any other panels painted - what would be worth doing is having the surrounding panels polished, so they are back to the original colour and painter shouldnt have an issue with paint matching, or at the very least wont be trying to blend to a false colour.

No I've been hit now 3 times on the same side 2 vans and a taxi.

Taxi damaged the bumper, wing but was in sh1te anyway and alloy.

The wing is gouged and crimpled all the way in.

1st van that hit wrecked the door, mirror, wing and alloy.
Another van hit it in traffic but only hit what was damaged already and taxi just destroyed even more.
