There is an interesting discussion to be had, as to whether Melania should get any sympathy at all. Clearly, her husband's behaviour shows that he has little or no respect for her (as he does for all women apparently) but on the other hand, she knew what she was getting into bed with (literally).

More and more evidence coming out that Trump did indeed spend that night in 2013 in Moscow. We now have social media, flight records, his own security and the Miss Universe 2013 host all confirming he stayed in Moscow overnight.

For such a prolific liar he really doesnt know how to do it very well. If he had just said in the beginning that he stayed the night and everything else was bogus he'd be fine but no he had to lie about something that was easily provable making the rest of what supposedly happened seem more and more likely

It's perversely fascinating, isn't it? I'd normally not touch this kind of 'celebrity' tattle with a 10 foot bargepole, but the Trump marriage is an odd fish, there's no doubt about it.

On balance I'd possess little sympathy for Melania's position: she knew what she was getting into, marrying a demonstrated adulterer and walking stereotype of an old-world, trustfund Tycoon. Equally though, she may have weighed all those factors and took a totally pragmatic decision. She'll likely outlive Trump, his wealth (whatever its actual net value) would open doors for her, and generally will live a life without many needs or wants. She wouldn't be the first person to marry a wealthy old man for those kind of reasons & sleep none the worse for it.

Where I do have sympathy for her, is that I daresay she did NOT want to be First Lady. If the previous estimation holds true, she was probably happy to spend her days in that perverse bubble of anonymity wealth can provide - which disappeared immediately on becoming the wife to the most powerful political figure on earth. Knowing his temperament probably didn't help either; again you'd wonder how much time she had to spend with Trump while 'just' being in a simple marriage - now there's no escape in indeed the union is less than stellar.

There has been rumour enough of her distress the night Trump won (once more I feel obliged to remind all his own campaign didn't think he'd win and had no plan were he to actually do so), and I could well believe it. What modicum of privacy she had was now gone. Other rumours talk about how the Trumps don't actually share a bed in the White House.

Then again, who knows: maybe the Trumps are the most loving, synchronised couple there is. But I doubt it.

When this story first came out in one of his first interviews where he was asked about it , his response was "There is no Video , I'd never have a video , no one will ever find a video"

Not - "This is a complete lie , nothing like that ever happened" , but "No one will ever find it"

He lies instinctively and speaks without thinking and seems incapable of following even the most basic of PR tools.

There may very well be no fire here at all , but he continuously creates smoke every time he opens his mouth so people are going to keep digging and keep talking about this stuff.

Normal people assume others are generally somewhat truthful, so they take what you say at face value, or at enough of face value to fit the lie into their world view.

What I also noted was, he said there were no prostitutes. He didn't say "there were no women". There could have been models, escorts etc etc

To be fair, I think any embattled US president would celebrate the win, while trying to ignore the horrendous collapse in support - in a deeply, deeply Red State at that (in fact I believe the district is Joe Arpaio's stomping ground). I wouldn't begrudge Democrats doing the same were the roles reversed.

Otherwise it's the usual standard of Trump tweet; attack the press, highlight his own ignorance about the larger discourse (which is clearly highlighting said support) blah blah. I mean at this stage, why do we even paste in his Tweets? Do embeds actually count as views, because if so I'd consider it tacit support by including them here

In the GOP presidential primary I voted for Ted Cruz. If you were talking about re-running the election based on hindsight, I would vote for Donald Trump in the general election. They didn't need to influence 60m voters to swing the election. They only needed to impact a few thousand votes in a small number of states to swing the electoral college

No, I haven't personally seen any such thing, nor am I definitively claiming that it happened. But you're arguing around a point I'm not making.

I was correcting your point that Russia influenced 60m US citizens to vote Trump by stating that they wouldn't need to do so in order to influence the election.

I'm not in a position to pull it all together here, but there have been plenty of people on here who have pulled together detailed lists of what happened in the US election & how Russia could have had an impact.

That and the fact that pretty much every government agency in the US at this stage has confirmed that there was an attempt to influence.

The point being responded to was that if something was there to be found it would be found by now.

An example showing that it is still early days in the investigation where wrong doing happened. The point was we can't say that nothing will be found on Trump because the investigation has been taking a while. Do you accept that point?
