I wouldn't normally be a fan of cycle tracks but would make an exception on that road. Very narrow and busy with constant close passing.

There I was,riding along minding my own business and a f**king pedestrian walks out in front of me.
And then to top it all a Garda car breaks a red light, on the wrong side of the road, and nearly runs me over.

Too this day one of the coolest and (admittedly stupid and dangerous) pedestrian/cyclist interactions I ever seen, is the one on College Green where a courier tried to nip through crossing pedestrians and an elderly gent (tipping 70 if not well above it) clothes lined him and took him to ground where he stood. No giving out, he faded into the crowd like the Glimmer man.

Courier hadn't a notion what happened.

It was of course not OK as he could have seriously hurt him but part of me thinks that it could have happened accidentally and that is what the courier took the risk doing.

It was comical.

About 35 years ago, just before Christmas, I was on my annual visit to dublin, accompanied by my wife and two sons. We were standing outside the Ilac Centre on Henry Street, deciding where to go for breakfast. I noticed a chap, running out of the Centre, with his hands in front of him, trying to hide something under his jacket. A security guard was chasing him. The gurrier passed about two feet from me. I stuck my foot out and he tripped over it. He went down like a log. He didn't have time to put his hands out to break his fall. The security guard caught him. My family and I walked away. I didn't look back to see the result of his fall.
Completely off thread, but I love telling the story.

i strongly suspect the answer to this question - hoses on track pumps are not replacable/standardised parts?
mine has split. it will unscrew, but i guess a new pump would be cheaper than replacing just the hose.

You can definitely replace them. I'd guess SJS. With Aldis brand one on sale in a few places though, not sure what the price difference would be.

If it's a Topeak, as I remember, pretty much all parts are replaceable.

Spent a bit last night changing the bar tape on my bike as it had become a bit tatty. Job done admired my handy work and promised I'd give the bike a wash this morning. Took it out earlier and it dawned on me that I'd not wrapped the cables and had left them out :mad:

Been a while (OK, nine months) since I went for a spin that wasn't a commute. And you start asking yourself if you really miss it. Is it really that much fun pushing yourself up hills and sitting on a saddle for ages.

So lacking any other time in the week to get out, I took out the good bike early this morning for an extended commute. Nothing fancy, 30k up Stocking and over Kilternan.

Coming down from Johnnie Foxes reminded me that yes, it is that much fun.

Also a really nice way to start off a work day. I shall be doing that again, repeatedly, this summer.

worst traffic i think i've even seen on the strand road this evening. possibly due to the garda closing off a lane northbound just at point village, to allow half a dozen buses to park there. was quite a knock on effect if that was indeed the cause.

i gave out to a motorist earlier, while i was crossing a road against a red pedestrian light.
as my mum would have said, one of you is as bad as the other.

Two of us arrived a few minutes after a cyclist went down (around the back of Ashbourne). Turns out a dog had run out and knocked him off. Turns out he was a neighbour of my mate, two drivers already had called an ambulance. He was squirming in pain the whole 15 minutes we were there. When the paramedics arrived there were quick to see he has dislocated his right shoulder. He also had problems breathing (probably rib damage). We called his wife to let her know the situation. Once he was loaded up on the ambulance we left. Speedy recovery Rob (if he frequents boards). His bike was taken in by a local neighbour. Stay safe out there.
