The judge probably felt that he would not have been safe in prison, plus he has been attending rehab since 2013. Im not trying to defend him or his actions, its just that there are a lot of people walking the streets at the minute who are guilty of a lot more serious crimes simply because the Irish prison system does not have the space or resources to cope with them. For example, a recent enough case where a man got 5 years with the final 2 years suspended for attempted murder with a butchers knife. Victim was in intensive care for a week.

Everything about this stinks.
