That guy is a marked man for the rest of his life, thats probably sentence enough.

The judge probably felt that he would not have been safe in prison, plus he has been attending rehab since 2013.

Im not trying to defend him or his actions, its just that there are a lot of people walking the streets at the minute who are guilty of a lot more serious crimes simply because the Irish prison system does not have the space or resources to cope with them.

For example, a recent enough case where a man got 5 years with the final 2 years suspended for attempted murder with a butchers knife. Victim was in intensive care for a week.

He'd have been sent to Arbour Hill,along with all the other perverts and rapists. Sure they even have their own prison in this country.

It's interesting the way "mitigating circumstances" include that the person has destroyed his reputation etc. Yes, I understand that. And it is a real life sentence destruction far greater than a mere prison sentence, as the Tom Humphries case shows. But it's loaded with socio-economic prejudice.

How often, for instance, do you hear that particular "reputational loss" mitigating circumstance about an equally obnoxious gurrier, but one who did not have a good job or a university education but instead who lives in gurrierville and left his gurrierville education very young?

They tend to have "troubled upbringings", "come from broken homes", and some drink/substance abuse.

Jail is too good for pedophiles IMO.

Let's face it, it's not like you can cure these kind of abnormalities of the human race.

A good long sentence of hard labour, with no parole would be preferable.

Just on this as I always see it trotted out. TV license offenders don't even see a landing. It's sign in, doctor sees you, picture taken and on you go.

So being a paedophile is more acceptable in this country than someone who doesn't pay their TV licence is this some kind of sick joke.

It's among the first ports of call for any committal, regardless of how long they're gonna be staying there. It's the same for anyone returning from court or hospital or a compassionate funeral escort. When they are shown the door, they're officially let out under temporary release terms (TR) but in reality it's just bye bye.

Putting these sickos in jail for a few years and then letting them loose again in a different area is not the answer. Something drastic has to be done to deter this as there is no cure for these freaks. Its getting all to common and time now to severely up the penaltys.

Signed a petition about this judge 2 years ago. His sympathy for filthy paedophiles and child porn down loaders is questionable.

Another example where the sentencing regime is way too lenient and inconsistent.

How would you even find the time to download 60K images??

That's the one where the state/gardai got a Warrant which specifically has a life of one week and executed eight days later. Rendering evidence completely and permanently non usable and non existent.

Am I being too cynical or has this delay allowed allowed said civil servant to retire from his senior role in the civil service before being convicted?

Should have got jail time as a contributor to the making of images of child abuse, even if he did not directly abuse.
