Playing a gamecube on a 4k tv possible?

Been on a retro gaming buzz of late and theres still a load of old consoles me brother has at the minute id love to play. The one i have my eye on is the gamecube as id love a go of smash bros mario kart luigis mansion and super monkey ball again!!!

Heres the thing though how do i play the console on a Samsung 4k tv which only supports hdmi ???

He also has the wii and wii u and ive seen theres ways of playing gamecube games on there the easiest being the wii but again it needs to work threw hdmi.

Ive seen adapters online but they seem to be few and far between and if i needed one id rather something i could literally go out tomorrow and buy in Dublin.

Any ideas how to get it all working?

Actually one thing i forgot to mention would it be possible to connect the gamecube to a AV receiver that i have connected to my tv etc. Heres a picture of it. https://goo.gl/images/UPv2R5

Any TV that takes a scart cable or composite, that's the red, yellow and white plugs, can display a GameCube signal.
You can get adapters to convert such a signal to HDMI and use that.

Ya its only hdmi that's why trying figure out how to connect up older consoles.

Right so found out me da has one of these so have it connected up from game cube to TV. Not working. Brother said it works at home on there Panasonic plasma but not on my Samsung 4k. When I connect the whole thing it just comes up no signal on my TV. I can't find anyway of lowering the signal on my TV. Bascially what I have connected is the cable running from the back thr gamecube which is rca plugged into a scart adapter. The scart is plugged into the scart to hdmi adapter. Then have a hdmi plugged into that into the unit connected on my TV.

Nothing lol.

So I went bit further tried it on the wii also same problem. Went up stairs to TV up there switched both console s back to just rca to scart and worked fine. The scart to hdmi adapter didn't work on the TV upstairs either though which is weird.

Really dunno what to do so.....

A solution from left-field, but personally, I play Gamecube games at 4K resolution, 60fps, on a 4K tv without any hassle whatsoever. The solution? Ditch the Gamecube

The Dolphin emulator is a veritable masterpiece of coding, and for me, as a hardware purist in a previous life, now surpasses the original hardware in almost every way.

The above shows the internal resolution of the Gamecube bumped up x6 in order to achieve 4k resolution, but what isn't shown, is the games running at 60fps, stutter free, and buttery smooth. It won't be to everyones liking, but for me, it is the defacto way to play GC on modern display panels.

If you have a Wii U you can install nintendont on it and play gamecube games from an sd card. The mod doesn't interfere with the wii u firmware and the games are run trough the hardware not emulation.

Never heard of it, seems very interesting. A bizarre decision by Nintendo to cripple GC functionality in the Wii U, considering how utterly useless the Wii U was for the first 18 months of its life (it could have done with some more game based functionality, & GC seems perfect!)....I always thought the Wii U didn't have native GC hardware in it

Still, I'd prefer Dolphin, it looks so much better than the native GC resolutions when you crank up the internal resolution - It plays perfectly too!

I don't think the requirements for Dolphin are all that high? Any half-recent cpu & gpu should be more than enough.

I was the same, I've loads of classic consoles that I'd love to have all connected up & working. It's just hassle though with modern displays, many of which seem to be dropping even Scart connections these days. In the end, it came down to buying a Frameister (an external scaler to use retro consoles on modern displays via rgb scart), or embracing emulation. I chose the latter, and don't regret it one bit

Dolphin will require some small tweaking to get it running perfectly, but once you do, it'd be quite hard to go back to using an actual Gamecube on a modern display. A Gamecube on a CRT monitor via RGB scart will forever be the king, but not everyone has the space or inclination to have a CRT tv these days.

I forgot to add, Dolphin will happily allow you to use a Wii U Gamecube Gamepad adapter, so you can use the real Gamecube controller with it.

My 2015 Mac book pro runs GC games on Dolphin fairly decently. Well, the older games work great, but the newer the software the more slowdown you encounter.

Went with a rca to hdmi converter from Amazon so hopefully come Wednesday all will be sorted!! I am dying to play smash bros :P

I think as display technology continues to evolve, using retro consoles is going to become increasingly niche. Indeed, emulation is now at the forefront of how we enjoy retro games already...be it the likes of the Nintendo Virtual Console, the likes of the 'Classic Mini' lineup of consoles, Xbox One Backwards Compatibility, Playstation ReReleases, and so forth. That's before I mention the likes of Retroarch, Dolphin, and the plethora of modern unofficial emulation solutions. ALL of these options simplify emulation on modern display panels, and are only going to increase in prevalence.

The OP's problem is a hugely common one for those wishing to use retro machines on modern tv's, and imo, emulation in 2018 is every bit a viable solution, as is buying adapters, scalers, specialised cables, etc. It mightn't appease the purists or collectors, but for the act of playing the games, and consuming the media, it's more often than not a complete experience.

Well there was a wise man and a pal of mine who once put in a request, just under a year ago. Alas, the Forum Requests forum is like having a Nationwide Election, held in a school hall in the backend of Skibereen....very few people frequent that place, and you're putting the potential growth and development of the whole site, in the hands of a very, very small audience.

Serious question, in the absence of a dedicated emulation forum, is it appropriate to suggest emulation as an option for the likes of the OP's question, in a forum like this? Has emulation become that dirty a word??

Yeah the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii and the Wii is able to run gamecube games. Maybe the cost of adding the gc disk drive wasn't worth it or maybe they wanted to sell more gc remakes. Dolphin is pretty sweet but I don't have a computer good enough to run it well. I always have trouble with sound or graphical glitches when using emulation. It does look bootiful when the resolution is bumped up tho

Yep, the Wii itself was basically the Gamecube 1.5. Having GC functionality with the Wii was a great move by Ninty, so it's odd they purposely dropped it on the Wii U. I wonder if they were planning to 'switch' GC functionality on at a later date, but eventually shifted focus to the Switch instead.

That is definitely true of emulation, to get the absolute best out of it, you do kinda need to put a little effort into it (unless it's something like the Nes or Snes Mini which are plug and play). That said, it's quite worth it in the end when you get the results you want.
