I've had occasion to be attending a doctor over recent weeks. Every time I go, I check in on an "Eye Pad" on the wall. If you have to pay, you are directed to a cashier/receptionist and shell out €55. I am one of the very, very few who has to pay. The waiting room is always full of people who don't pay a red cent, directly at least.

Sadly this type of scenario with the delay of getting seeing to by health professionals happens quite regularly with the health service. My dad, who sadly is in the early stages of alzheimers

, was meant to be visited on two ocassions last month by a doctor and a nurse, to carry out cognitive testing. They never turned up on the scheduled days, not even a phone call to say they were delayed or cancelling and when you want to make another appointment to get seen to, you're immediately put on another waiting list, unreal it is....
