Aer Lingus boarding pass on phone?

Stupid question here... downloaded an adobe acrobat boarding pass from an aer lingus online checkin. It doesn't look like a proper mobile app boarding pass, the barcode thingy is longer, but it is the pass itself, ready to be printed. Can't get my printer working though. Can I just use the version on my phone (by enlarging the barcode and scanning) or do I need paper? Thanks!

That's all you need, it'll be grand. Have the page open zoomed in on the code. It works without problem but they should get their act together for proper mobile wallet solutions.

I recently went abroad there (ryanair), i used it on my phone, just took a screenshot of the pass and it worked fine. probably best to use have both though as my phone on the return trip only had 4% battery left so i could of been in trouble.

I just flew the other day and they seem to have upgraded the app. I just put the boarding card in apple wallet cause that's what I'm used to but the Aer Lingus app is definitely better than it was, easy to check-in etc on the app.

I flew to the Canaries in Feb. with a party of four and I had the boarding passes for all of us on the Aer Lingus app on my smartphone.

the app used to not allow you to get boarding passes for more than 1 person.
Not a massive issue if flying from Dublin or Cork where you can get a printout from a machine easily, but it would be a pain if abroad and needing to queue for a half hour at checking just to get boarding passes for the rest of the family.

Well done aer lingus, slowly fixing the bleedin obvious problems.

Aer Lingus app in the App Store has mobile boarding cards and wallet compatibility for iPhones. Just have to make sure you have the new app.

I was using an Android (see post #6 above) phone so there shouldn't be any problem these days with mobile boarding passes.

Just to be sure, is it enough to have the boarding pass PDF on your phone or do you have to have a print-out? I have an Android phone and the Android app still doesn't have a boards pass features AFAICS.

if you have a pdf to be printed out as A4, then you need to print it out .

this is in the help, not as clearly stated as other airlines say, but "Online check in requires you to print your own boarding pass" means you are required to print the pass.
Its not for fun, or to be awkward, its because a pdf on a screen scaled (and blurred) randomly is not very scannable.

good news though, as you may have noticed by the name of the airline, the green livery and the shamrock, Aer Lingus is not Ryanair.
That means they are different, not the same. And it means you can print the boarding pass from a machine at the airport for free should you not be able to do it in advance or make the app work for you.

If you really want, you can queue and get a human to check you in for free (but likely a different human will for free help you use the machine for free, to let people who REALLY need to checkin at a desk , for free, do that).

So, unlike Ryanair (who are only one airline of many, albeit fairly big out of Ireland), theres no need to fret if you cannot get a pass printed or in a proper format on your phone if flying on Aer Lingus.

For Aer Lingus

If you have checked in online and failed to print out the PDF out and you are flying from Ireland or EU (but not UK) then go to the app enter the booking reference and surname and it should pull the boarding pass down.

You can't use mobile passes to and from the US and due to some IT issues you cannot download boarding cards to phones if checked in online from a UK airport

Aer Lingus don't care, so the check in desk or gate staff can issue a boarding card

If you have the ability to check-in online the day before, it's worth it because you can select your seat for free. You can then elect to print the boarding pass at the kiosk i.e. you do not have to print the boarding card at home just because you are checking in online.

If you're not bothered about seat selection or you can't check-in online, you can do the lot at the kiosk. And regardless of what you did or did not do at home, you can always print a new boarding pass from the kiosk provided you have the booking reference.

Once you have downloaded Aer Lingus boarding cards to your Android mobile, you can still access them in 'flight' (offline) mode so if your battery is running low and you're getting worried, put the phone into flight mode. This reduces battery utilisation to almost zero but the Aer Lingus app will still allow you to call up the boarding passes.

The unique thing about downloaded boarding passes is that you can get past the first security check where they scan your boarding card but if your phone craps out before you get to the boarding gate, you can be left stuck in limbo.

I experimented with this in Lanzarote airport a few weeks ago while waiting for a delayed boarding. I did have plenty of battery but with time on my hands and while waiting to be called to board, I put the phone into flight mode and was still able to call up the boarding passes for our party.

Silly me - I learned that the reason I didn't get a boarding pass on my (android) phone the last time was because I checked-in on my laptop. So they seem to make the assumption that you want to print out a boarding pass then and don't add it to your phone app. This time I checked-in on the phone and... there it was.

Regional flights are not ticketed the same way so its either printed or mobile but not both

Mainline flights out of ireland you can have both
