Its amazing how so many people are so easily willing to ignore the fact that these guys were found not guilty of all charges in a court of law.

I am not saying it is right or wrong, but this could not have come at a worse time for everyone concerned. This case has provoked the largest collective discussion on all aspects of sexualt assault/rape/consent certainly in my lifetime. It is also one of the most divisive cases in my lifetime, such was the nature of the trial, the media attention, the exposure the 4 lads received, the unprecedented 7 day cross examination of a young woman who claimed to have been a victim of a brutal crime. Separate to that, we are at a point where professional sportsmen assume a kind of a gladiator type persona in Irish cities as a consequence of succeeding on the field of play. These guys are afforded a profile that allows them to reap huge financial rewards for that success. Irish professional rugby is still in its infancy and it's ability to grow and succeed is very impressive, what now remains to be seen is how it responds to its biggest off field controversy certainly since the 70s. Somehow, Irish Rugby, which should be celebrating a very successful year, has found itself in the middle of a tide of two external and powerful forces, on the one hand, the metoo movement which has led to the ibelieveher movement here in Ireland, and the more silent (apart from on here) but equally forceful male equivalent, men who believe that male rights are being eroded in the face of these feminist social contributors evident in media and social media. It is such a circus, the verdicts only threw fuel on the fire that was already raging!

But I don't think too many will be thinking of the trial or letting it spoil their enjoyment when Leinister and Munster line out for their semi finals. There is far to much of this sort of emoting going on by some who are desperately trying to keep it going. But it is on the wane. Poll is now up and over 12,000 and heading towards 13,000https://www.change.org/p/ulster-rugby-get-paddy-jackson-and-stuart-olding-back-playing-for-ulster-rugby?recruiter=453366214&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial.nafta_milestone_share_ask_victory.control

Especially when there is a seperate poll with 65,000 people cancasing for the exact opposite. And we haven't yet heard from the IRFU or Ulster Rugby...one side is going to be very unhappy...

VinLieger wrote: » That poll is a farce setup by angry clueless people, its first iteration was demanding that the IRFU and Ulster rugby review the contracts of all 4 of the men involved in the case, which is hilarious considering 2 of them do not have a contract with either the IRFU or Ulster Rugby. It was setup demanding the IRFU and Ulster Rugby review the players conduct a full day after AFTER the IRFU and Ulster Rugby had already announced that's exactly what they were going to do. The people involved with the poll evidently didn't really care or were aware of the real facts and just wanted to stamp and scream in anger
facehugger99 wrote: » Doesn't really matter who set up the petition, the facts are that public sentiment is very much against either of these guys being allowed to represent our country, that much is undeniable. Sponsors and advertisers will have already taken note of the public mood. Meyers and Hook were removed from their jobs for far less once it became clear there was a risk to the bottom line. At the end of the day, neither of them are good enough for the IRFU to risk losing money and public support on
