heading to south east asia in a few weeks namely thailand,laos,cambodia,vietnam and jjst looking to know what shots i would have to get? also were would be the cheapest place to get them around dublin?

Very few countries have "required" vaccinations. Mostly it's advisable. This site is pretty good for advising which is best, you can then use it when going to TMB or your GP. I was afraid TMB might upsell and suggest ones not strictly needed, in fairness they didn't.

Anyone been and not got the rabies jab?

Recently visited Thailand without the rabies jab but refrained from petting monkeys, dogs, cats etc... This time however I don't want to have to be as conscious when an animal comes close... Travelling to Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines and Indonesia. Anyone been and not had it? Thanks.

Don't remember getting rabies shot.

You can't get rabies from petting an animal they have to bite you afaik.

Animals with rabies will generally be rabid, roaming at the mouth going mad chasing their tail, again AFAIK.

Seem to be similar enough to TMB: €60 consultation and shots similar ...

I'm wondering if I am already covered though because I got Rabies and Tetanus shots in 2009 and it says here they last for 10 years.

I'm definitely covered for Hepatitis A/B though as those expire in 2019 too.

Hello everyone. I maybe going to Spain. I have two pet birds. I read online they don't need vaccination but need a health certificate though I should call the relevant authority in the country of destination for more information. Anyone know which authority this would be in Spain? Thank you.

I had an appointment cancelled by TMB last week due to a shortage in Hep B vaccines in the country. TMB said they wouldn't have sufficient stock for a few months.

I have tried four GP offices, who specialise in travel vaccines, and various pharmacies to locate a Hep B booster. Non available.

The best advice I was give is to get a prescription from my GP and contact pharmacies in the North. Buy the booster up there and ask my GP to administer it.

Anyone booking holidays in far off lands should make plans asap to get their vaccines sorted !

Just looking for advise on a rabies vaccination,

I have 2 shots done,due another in 10days or so

But looks like il need to get home for a family emergency and miss the last date

Are these the same in every country,or is the last date due an absolute necessity on that date or would it make a huge difference,ive been getting mixed answers off google :-/

This should've possibly been posted in the Health forum but here it goes anyway...

I'm travelling to Japan and Hong Kong in 6 weeks for a total of 17 days.

What vaccinations are essential ?(i.e. Huge possibility of getting sick etc)

According to tab.ie, none are essential but some are recommended such as Tetanus. I might have answered my own question but has anyone experience of going to these countries without any of these vacs, I'd rather save the 150 quid for the holiday.

P.S - I thought Japanese people live the longest (ignorance coming out here

)

No requirement for an Irish citizen entering Japan

Note upon arrival by air there is a thermal imaging camera which scans everyone entering the passport area, this is to pick off anyone with SARS or bird flu. There is also a nurse/doctor on hand in the passport hall area.

Do you need to get vaccinations if going to South Africa? I'm going for 3 months and staying in Johannesburg. I've gotten mixed opinion over this. Someone I know didn't get any but someone else got them months in advance.

Tetanus booster, rabies if you think you will be in the bush long term and malaria tabs if in the north east during mozzy season.

I will have to get vaccinations. I understand that I can get them from a place in Dawson Street or another in Grafton Street. Are these the best places to go to get them?

Do I have to get all the injections at the same time or can these be spread over a period of say a month?

Any thoughts/suggestions or tips appreciated.

Is that TMB? Best to get them in one bit where possible. It's cheaper as they charge a consultation fee, but if youve to go back for boosters etc it might not be in your control

If your travelling for work just get all the jabs. Your work will cover them.

You should download the TravelWise app from the dept of foreign affairs its great info for travelling to non European countries

For four days where you'll be between the hotel and office, there is really no need to go through that hassle IMO. As long as you are eating in reputable places and drinking bottle water, which I assume are a given

Don't ever assume anything about India.

OP, get the shots, as another poster said work will probably cover the cost anyway.

I lived there for 2 years, there's a huge amount of top class hotels and restaurants available. No issues with sourcing bottled water either. Didn't see any rabid dogs and the disease-free mosquito's rarely bothered me.

I really don't think shots are necessary for a 4 day trip, but if its not something the OP minds doing, then go for it. If anything,it will give you peace of mind. Stay away from the Kingfisher premium beer and enjoy the traffic!

Got all the shots when I was in India last year.
Ate in a reputable place and made the mistake of eating ice cream! It was a nasty 12 hours.

Is there any database in Ireland that would have information on what vaccines I received previously?
