I remember hearing a panel on Newstalk where a kildare ladies footballer or coach outlined how they had to rent a pitch from the county board at a cost of €80. Cost of entry for the game was €5 and they had 14 people who paid in meaning that they lost €10 through putting on the game. It is criminally under supplied and must be very disconcerting for all involved when they see tales of men's teams having paid coaches at club level and training camps abroad and so on for some inter-county men's panels.

Congrats to one and all. They are a credit to their families and the county.

They say that there are some injuries in the camp which they hope that will clear up by tomorrow evening. Derrick Lynch is fuming. The Clare FM head of sport has his brother - Damien Lynch involved in the panel. With a team being named around 5 pm tomorrow evening, he is saying that this will give "young lads no time to get their heads right for the biggest game of their lives so far. Ridiculous" via his twitter account. What do people think about this not naming a team just shortly before the match? Has Derrick got a point?
Clareman wrote: » No he doesn't, it's not an All Ireland final it's the first round of the championship, not too long ago the team was picked by the manager throwing the jerseys to the players just before going out on the pitch. Sometimes too much cr@p goes into stuff, if a 16 year old needs time to "get their heads right" to play a match then there's something seriously wrong.
Claregaafan18 wrote: » Personally you are right. Was that back in 2014 the time regarding players being thrown jerseys just before going on the pitch, where the Clare minor footballers conceded 6 goals v Waterford that same year? About Derrick I think is a bit of a populist of a man. In other words he thinks by saying stuff that might be a populist view then people would agree with him and make him look like he knows his stuff. The game itself will be close. That Limerick team played very well in 2017 Under-16 Munster Football tournament where they reached the final. Hope that home advantage might swing it to our favour but as I said it will be very close.

In Hurling, Inagh-Kilnamona were most impressive when running out comprehensive 23 point winners over Broadford in the Clare Cup 1B. To my mind the combo are serious contenders for the Canon Hamilton and surely some day with all their underage success in the last few years they can claim that elusive Clare senior hurling championship title. With Fergal Hegarty in charge of the side, there certainly is no better man for the job me thinks to manage this group of young players. Clonlara and Cratloe drew 3-11 to 0-20 in the Clare Cup 1A. Both sides with a bit to prove ahead of the championship. The defending Canon Hamilton champions Sixmilebridge will likely be the favorites for back to back titles. They play Kilmaley (2017 Clare Intermediate Champions) this evening in 1A. While Feakle play the current Clare Cup holders Newmarket also this evening. I was very sad to see Wolfe Tones of Shannon just about fielding 15 players (no subs) in a recent Clare Cup 1B game and clearly things are not good in relation to hurling and gaa in general in Shannon. Clare GAA needs Wolfe Tones back being competitive again. They were Munster Intermediate hurling champions back in 2015 so lets hope for a quick turnaround in fortunes for the Shannon side. While 2016 Canon Hamilton champions Ballyea who at the start of the year were my favorites to win Canon Hamilton will badly miss Fergie O'Loughlin, who left his position as manager/coach after being angry over Ballyea's county players lack of involvement in a Clare Cup game, the same weekend that Clare played Limerick in the NHL Quarter-Final. In football in the Cusack Cup, Kilmurry Ibrickane, Cooraclare and Clondegad are 1,2 and 3 in that division. While in the Garry Cup (Division 2) Ennistymon and Eire Og Ennis have a 100% record with 4 wins from 4. So overall that is the state of play in relation to the Clare GAA club scene at the moment. The hope is all Clare and Cusack Cup leagues will conclude by August, the likely start of both Clare senior hurling and football championship also.

He scored 3 goals today for St Breckans in their 9 point win over Kilmurry Ibrickane in the Cusack Cup today. Surely Colm Collins and Seamus Clancy would have taken note. He is underage for the U20 grade in 2018 so if anyone with any information on whether he is on the U20 panel would be most welcome. I see on twitter that Cormac Murray has scored 1-3 as St Josephs Miltown lead Clondegad 1-17 to 1-5 in the Cusack Cup midway in the second half. Again anyone with any reason why Murray is not on the Clare senior football panel would be appreciated. He has been in scintillating form for his club in the last 12 months and I think that he will be a vital asset for Colm Collins if he was part of the senior football panel. Finally how are preparations getting on for the Clare U17 and U21 hurlers ahead of their opening Munster Championship matches against defending Munster champions Cork and Limerick respectively. Sean Doyle is once again manager of the minors. While John Carmody is in his second year in charge of the U21 hurlers. I hope that anyone can shed any light on any of the above queries. Thanks.
