I'm not a big fan of his media work but McGinley on Off The Ball was very good this week talking about his first Masters and talking about the course itself. Very interesting.

Is Sky HD extra money - I'm with the terrible virgin.

Like watching golf about 10 years ago with trees and grain a bit blurry.

Yep, pretty annoyed with the quality, looks worse than normal channels.

What channels is the master on?

Is it something like sky sports only on Thursday and Friday. Then also on BBC on Saturday and Sunday.

TV its the local sports station here.
Its the best coverage I've seen in ages, just loads of golf, so the pictures are there if SKY etc want to pick them up they clearly can. Sure there are the usual breaks to show the leaderboards and a few flowers, but in fairness, they are very quick and not that often.

Beem made the mistake of saying "fans" earlier. Apologised immediately and banged on about patrons for a good 2mins thereafter. Laughable.

Watched on EIR picture was good commentary ok but headwrecking watching the same fecking ads every few minutes although the golf simulator looks cool thinking of getting one for the spare room after I have my weekends away in Dromoland Castle and the K Club.

One positive on Poulter winning last week is we dont have to listen to him on the sky coverage. Hopefully he'll just scrape in on the cut line and we will also be saved from any potential weekend work with Sky.

Im not sure i could handle him and Mcginley.

I flicked over to the US commentary for a while actually and f**king hell.
Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo, jesus f**king wept. You might as well just mute the TV. Bad enough having to listen to Nantz for 20 weeks during NFL season without that.

McGinley and Butch was a small compromise i suppose. :pac:

I watched on the sky red button last night, was able to flick between the main converage / amen corner / holes 15 & 16 and the featured groups. Thought it was excellent.

Nothing horrendous about him. He often brings up technical issues and insights that others (e.g Butch Harmon) don't. And he doesn't slobber over Tiger as some do.

McGinley is bang average as a pundit. Better than the US coverage but jesus there are surely better guys out there. Butch is fine. Harrington was good i thought last year.

Agreed. McGinley doesn't offer much insight, which Harrrington did in spades last year. Not to mention McGinley's obsession with the Ryder Cup.

I enjoy Harrington a lot but I'd listen to McGinley any time ahead of Mark Roe - or Butch, who has yet to say anything more profound than "attaboy Rory".

was watching american coverage last night bit all over the place they seemed to zone in on spieth, li, phil and finau for most of the coverage i seen.

does anyone know if sky is using the same shots as american or there own cameras.

i assume tonght we will see every shot of tiger and not much else

To be fair to McGinley its a tough gig, its quite easy to say that x.y and z were good when they were only on once or twice, pretty hard to pretty much talk about the same thing week in week out.

CBS cameras are on-site. They are covering lots of different things happening at the same time and feeding it to the control room. Each broadcaster covering the tournament decides which players/shots they want to use.

Sky decides what to take from what CBS offer them. The Spanish, Japanese, South African etc broadcasters will make their choices so they can feature their favourites.

Eir Sport doing it on the cheap and are just re-broadcasting what CBS is showing in the US.

Speith and Mcllroy will almost be finished by the time live coverage starts. It might take Netflix or amazon to come in and force their hand. Nobody wins by restricting the coverage.
