I don't buy the discrimination factor, there is no big white boogeyman stopping anyone getting ahead in life if they make the right choices and act like a decent human being. Victim culture exists, how are you ever going to improve your own situation if you're constantly being told you're a victim.
The underclass of which I speak didn't create itself - it's a product of ghettoisation. Taking a bunch of people with social and fiscal problems and forcing them to live en masse together is an idiotic idea that is destined to create a culture of perpetually spiralling criminality.

2 Scoops wrote: » That was my point about broken families and fatherless kids all grouped together, it has nothing to do with racism or discrimination and everything to do with bad life choices. If i was born there it wasn't because of racism, it was because of a series of bad decisions.

What these kids need is a proper kick up the hole and to learn right from wrong. What they get instead are media and political types pandering to them as if they're victims, victims of what I'm not sure exactly. The UK might not be as bad as the US but there the single mother parent figures are extremely high in crime ridden areas. There's no responsibility and accountability.
Shenshen wrote: » Are you really convinced that if the kids growing up there become fathers and stay with their families, their kids in turn wouldn't turn out the same way? After all, growing up in a violent household or a household where drugs are being used are strongly correlated with becoming violent or a drug user in later life.
Shenshen wrote: » I'm not from Ireland, but have lived here long enough to realise that there are significant problems with crime and violence in the Traveller community. And I also understand that in this community, a single-mother family is practically unheard of. If it was just the presence of fathers that prevented criminality, surely this group would be counted among the most law-abiding citizens in the country?
2 Scoops wrote: » If the fathers were good parents then yes. Breaking the mould so that the previous generation grow up to be responsible is obviously the key issue, all I know is chanting black lives matter won't change anything and only makes things worse. These communities need to stop placing the blame on others and actually try to do work within themselves, whether that's support for single mothers, school grants or whatever. My original point was about discrimination, it's not to blame.
2 Scoops wrote: » You could look at it another way, traveller kids are exposed to a certain way of living so much so that it normalizes their behaviour. It's not a fair comparison anyway, the crime problems are part of society as a whole where as the travelling community are reclusive and for the most part keep to themselves. There's inbreeding and other factors too.
Shenshen wrote: » Ok, so the goalposts are moving now - not all fathers, just the good ones. I would assume that a sign of a good father would be not leaving his family, so it may be a fair assumption that those absent fathers would not have been good fathers, and not a good influence on their children, anyway. It's interesting that you call them communities - it implies coherence, structure, organisation, a feeling of belonging. Somehow I doubt that many social housing estates have any of the above.
2 Scoops wrote: » I'm not switching anything, my original point was about blaming discrimination which I disagree with, these last few posts have gone away from that. I think it's something like 75% + single black mothers in the US so to deny that there certainly isn't a correlation is a bit foolish imo.
Shenshen wrote: » And I've pointed you to the travelling community with nearly 100% two-parent families, and similar of not worse problems. The common denominator is poverty and a feeling of exclusion. And in both cases, a perception (with some significant basis in fact) of being poor and excluded because the majority decided that's what they should be. Now, how that cycle of being poor, feeling you have no future prospects and consequently not being able to better yourself can be broken, that would indeed be worth discussing. However, shouting "Stop pretending that you're poor and excluded!" at them is not going to be useful or helpful, I think.
2 Scoops wrote: » You're comparing gypsies to blacks? No majority put anyone, anywhere. If mommy decides to have to have a boat load of kids with a string of different men or little jimmy picks up a knife and stabs someone those are their choices, this fantastical majority you seek to place the blame on doesn't exist.

If you are rich, you'll get richer but if you are unlucky to be born poor then good luck, you won't be living off the earnings from land, shares or inheritance. This is why I laugh at Liberals now. They claim to support the working class, but their policies have been destructive to them. They claim to support a higher minimum wage, but support unchecked border and immigration control which leads to a flood of unskilled, cheaper workers that have made wages stagnate or decrease. Their open border polices are completely destructive full stop. Its the reason why the rents have skyrocketed and our taxes are increasing. Plus food prices are going up. This is basic economics. As resources become scarcer the value increase. Especially as the demand increases.
