Obviously circumstances like technical issues can mess everything up, but let's just say everything goes to plan, is it days, weeks or even longer? For long haul probably 3-4 days. For short haul its 1-2 days. The aircraft type is set far more than advance than the actual airframe e.g. Rome FCO might be initially planned as an A320 but 2 weeks beforehand it might be changed to an A321 (or vice versa) if there is high demand. Similarly with the A330 fleet; the aircraft type is assigned first in accordance with demand on the route and then a couple of days before, the airframe itself is assigned. On Europe especially, last minute aircraft changes are common - even just an hour or two beforehand. Lots of variables including tech issues on the day or delays mean that aircraft are swapped around constantly.

It had no destination on FR24, but I did note that the scheduled EI710 ex Cork to Heathrow was cancelled. I watched 990 and it went and landed in Heathrow then an hour later returned as EI711. So my query is, was it down as a positioning flight due to a shortage of passengers or what? Why could they have not just gone with the usual EI 710? Is there a technical reason for this?

You will have the CSM come and intro themselves and call you by your name. Plus it also has the curtain of mystery between that and economy. I don't know anyone else with that configuration of seat on a 78 but the couple of times that I was placed there I wouldn't be that happy about.

I was referring to the ex-QR A330 that will be entering EI service. I don’t expect them to be lax either about ppl slipping into the ‘extra’ row of J class. Remains to be seen if EI retain a curtain there. (Blocks visibility)

Flight numbers are: EI 129 - AL site details this as 3T1 as the aircraft type - very confusing EI 128 (19th May) - AL site details this as 3E1 as the aircraft type EI 128 (4th June) - AL site details this as 3E4 as the aircraft type. What planes are these? I think they are A330 but not 100% sure and the AL isn't great on details. If you could point me how to find out the info, it would be great. We'll be travelling with a 10 month year old and are hoping to secure a bassinet but I believe this is aircraft dependent. Thanks spanner
