Aer Lingus Fleet/Routes Discussion

The seat map for the B767-200 being leased by EI next year are available on the Aer Lingus website, the seating is 2,3,2 in economy (As was suspected) and 2,2,2 in business

There are 189 economy seats and 12 Business seats making a total of the reported 201 seats.

Anyone know whether the B767 will be repainted, partially or entirely, in the EI colours for the 6 months that its leased for?

Well the 28th of April will mark 60 years since Aer Lingus first navigated across the Atlantic with their Lockheed Constellations on Arpil 28th 1958, it would be very fitting to mark the anniversary with a retro livery paying homage to their history and heritage. Certainly an achievement worth commemorating, not may airlines today have that sort of history or heritage or level of experience as Aer Lingus so it'd be nice to see something to mark the occasion.

Whether the current Aer Lingus team are even aware of this though I wouldn't know, their 80th Anniversary in 2016 wasn't marked by any fan fair under the current management, apparently in a bid for people to think of the airline as young and hip. Nice bit of publicity for them if they did do some sort of social media event around the occasion.

The April issue of Cara has a feature on it and a specially designed front cover to celebrate. Not sure if anything else planned and highly doubt a special livery but but at least they're aware and will be marking the occasion somehow.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the Rugby livery?

Imagine a train in old livery. Or a football team togging out in 1950’s gear. Or even the ‘old’ post office green vans, ( or even the uniform worn by postmen previously)

All consigned to the vaults

If changing the livery at some future date, move on and make it modern.

Agreed. I always felt it was a really ugly scheme and the two shades of green definitely don't work well together. I won't be sorry to see the back of it.

I really like the EI branding and livery. However I do agree it needs a “refresh”, and like I’ve said before, all they need to do is something simple like the KLM adjustment to modernise it.
Please god may they not start from scratch with a totally new look as I guarantee you it will be eurowhite and boring a.f. like Lufthansa or Air France or Iberia etc

Absolutely. I totally agree but I would even go so far as to say I wouldn't even wish to draw management's attention to it for fear they would do exactly that. Like with almost every other airline in recent years, I highly doubt EI management would be any different and actually go for a new livery full of colour and design. The accountants at the top make all these decisions and eurowhite is exactly what you'd get because its low cost. They are constantly looking for ways to pare back costs and I'm sure a new livery would be no exception here.

Better to leave well enough alone right now. There are worse liveries out there.

The livery is still incredibly popular, both in Ireland and around the world. There are aspects of the design that need modernising, the way the cheat line and window stripe begins so abruptly being the most obvious but the overall 'Green Top' concept works well and continues to stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons.

Many airlines have made a mess of their livery in recent years and if someone at Aer Lingus head office suddenly thinks a new livery is a good idea, there's a strong possibility that they'd end up going down the same route, believing the hype fed to them by some design agency and getting a livery that could be done in 5 minutes on MS Paint!

With regards to the rugby livery, it's not in any way elegant but it's eye catching and fun. It's nice to see something different in the fleet and it does the job of supporting their role in the sponsorship of Irish Rugby which has been a huge success for the airline since it started. A few adjustments and it could have potential but not sure it's worthy of a fleet wide corporate livery;

That looks nice... Get rid of the light green at the front and continue the darker green all the way forward (Norwegian style). Redo the font to that nice aerLingus.com logo floated about a few years back bit never used (not that red spot monster) the modern one.

And pop some Ireland scenes in the white area.. maybe charge Failte Ireland/IDA etc. for their placement and #rockofcashel #silicondocks #cliffsofmoher - with EI refusing blatant advertising that doesn't fit their mantra.

Just some thoughts... But likely off topic.

I think cliched images of Ireland on the side of the aircraft is a little too "90s Aer Lingus" for the airline it is today.

Aer Lingus is marketing itself as the Irish airline at home but an international airline abroad. The rugby sponsorship was actually about reinforcing their Irish identity at home while expansion in North America is very much marketed as using Ireland as a European gateway.

The aerlingus.com days are long gone thankfully, it worked when airline websites were relatively new but these days everyone knows how to book online. Most airlines are removing their websites from liveries, Lufty for example.

I’m not a fan either. I just think that’s there is too much going on with the 2 shades of green AND the player pics.

However I do fear (maybe too strong a word?) that any new livery will be Eurowhite with a green tail. I think the current green top works very well in standing out in far flung airports. Its difficult to appreciate until you have spotted a shamrock taxing amongst the sea of white fuselages at large hubs like JFK, LAX, LHR, AMS, FRA, ORD or SFO.
KLM and Vietnam Airlines also stand out with their blue top or all teal fuselage.

No word back from my point of contact re EI-GEY. He fears that he may have heard incorrectly.
No pint for him so!

Summer schedules commenced last Sunday.
Services on transatlantic routes will ramp up during April & May.

Well yeah their expanded fleet will require more crews this year, as far as I know all cabin crew operate mixed flying rosters, so new seniors wouldn’t be operating exclusively on new TA routes

PHL launched last weekend. I think daily LAX started then as well.

So just waiting on Seattle for their 'full' schedule.

I saw an image last year, a screenshot from FR24 showing only EI aircraft. Taken about 5pm, as late DUB-JFK was airborne but the early arrivals into BOS and JFK hadnt landed yet. I think there were 12 aircraft strung across the North Atlantic.

I flew on 2 757 last week, one was OK but dated but the other was shocking, seat was very worn and uncomfortable, tables were cracked where you latch them, general interior looked worn and entertainment system only picked up a small number of movies (unlike neighbouring screens and reboot didn't fix).

The 757 cabins are knackered, they were worn out when they left Finnair and time was always going to catch up with them without a complete cabin refit and modernisation programme by Aer Lingus or ASL.

Shame about the IFE but that's not 757 specific, can happen on any airline or aircraft unfortunately. No excuse for the seats and tables though, they were newly installed when they went into service weren't they?

It's a shame they didn't consider how long these birds would be flying for Aer Lingus, they could have given them a complete overhaul like Delta has done to bring them in line with the A330s, Detla fitted new sidewalls, pivot bins, lighting and panels which result in the 757 looking like a brand new 737MAX.

When I last flew on those 757s I found the cabins to be absoulutly fine, in good condition and very comfortable sturdy feeling seats, but maybe I got lucky or maybe one of the aircraft has slightly different interior that you experienced (Is it CJX? is the oddball of that fleet)?.
Im pretty sure the seat are totally different to the ones Finnair had installed as they have seat back TVs and entertainment where Finnair didn’t have this, I could be wrong.
The only area I felt was neglected on those aircraft was the toilets which I felt needed some care, but thanksfully I didn’t have to spend to long in there !

The bad one was Odhrbut the general interiors om 2 757s I flew are worn. It honestly wouldn't make me recommend the Al 757 flights

Odhran is EI-LBR I gather from google.
Have you considered popping EI an email or complaint to highlight the issues/standards you experienced? Feedback is the only hope of improving these areas

I would except last year I brought something to their attention in the nicest possible way as a point of feedback and the response was far from what was expected.

Cabin Managers are higher up the chain than seniors and operate on the a330's.

Fair enough, I’m still of the opinion that putting something in writing is the best way to give feed back be it negative or positive.
