I think he's one of the best on the air and I'd have him up there with Ed Smith, Kelly-Anne Byrne and the excellent Paul McLoone. Some people find his dulcet midlands tones a bit hypnagogic but he's got a sharp wit and I think he's interesting. His mate's pub sounds unreal.

They were waffling on about how great she was and even played relatively new material which I wasn’t even aware of. Why didn’t they play it when she was alive. It really did annoy me the way the likes of Dermot Whelan and Muireann OConnell-both from Limerick eulogised her but couldn’t be bothered to play a track of hers when she was alive.

Lots of talk about how good the songs were and plenty of their hits played. Funny thing, though, the songs were as good before she died as they were after but the station simply wasn't playing them, just the same old generic tune day in, day out. The music played on the station now is just meh, at best.

I don't think I could recognise one song from another that's played from the current 'hits', they all sound exactly the same to me. Then again, I am outside the target demographic. I find myself tuning into local radio more these days, plenty of good music from the last 30 years played and some of the newer music too. Much more pleasant experience. Bar Ian in the morning, I doubt I'll be listening to Today FM in a few months time.

I still find him to be very wide-eyed like a kid in a sweetshop but I think that's just a manifestation of him being aware of how lucky he is to have a primetime slot on a national radio station at his age. He wears it on his sleeve and there's something about that I like. But the quality of his show is on the up and up. Imo, it's starting to become a bit of a slick broadcast. I mentioned before that I admire the canniness in him recognising he can't carry the show on his own and bringing in a lot more of (the fantastic Mr.) Ed Smith. Yes, the content of the links is light and fluffy but it's not forced like it was when he started and it's become what I'd want from a light entertainment show, maybe without being as good as some of the shows we have been lucky enough to have over the years on Today FM - my personal favourite was the very short-lived KC show. I suppose this gives me some hope that Muireann's show will improve. It's very forced at the moment and the "topics" are extremely bland. But with the right people backing her up and the proven quality she has as a broadcaster, I think the show will find its feet and become another good quality light entertainment show. Directed at people younger than me, of course.
