This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

This Galway team is definitely on the up,youthful and laden with quality forwards and great depth.They still have a number of notable absentees including the Corofin lads.

I'll be one happy camper if we come out the right side on May 13th. Not sure if they're ready to wrestle away our mantle as top dog in Connacht just yet irrespective of their recent Connacht title wins.

We aim to entertain... all joking aside, I loved last summer (other than the obvious heartbreak at the end). All the stress and drama added to the enjoyment.

So we need Monaghan to beat Donegal. Monaghan have an outside chance of getting to the league final. But they need to win their next 2 games. One against Dublin. Only saw highlights of the Donegal game, they looked not up for it oddly.

Us V Tyrone, could go either way. If Mayo don't beat the blanket then we are fupped, but this has happened time and time again, so I expect Rochford to have this figured out, time will tell.

After next weekend then we need to see Mayo on 6, Tyrone on 4 and Donegal on 2. We are safe then.
If Donegal win then we need to go to Donegal and win, as long as we beat Tyrone. Even if we dont beat Tyrone then we still need to go to Donegal and win.
If AOS drives down the middle of Donegal like highlighted last night then we will see more scores.

I think Kerry will be safe, they have Kildare who they will beat.

We need to go win the next 2 and be up to speed to beat the next AI champions in waiting

If we're allowed a little confidence, I think we've handled Tyrone's blanket fairly well lately. Iirc, it was the game last year that started to get us going, our backs aren't against the wall as much as last year. I think we'll start to see us crank it up a bit.

The Tyrone game is going to be a bitch fest. The two teams don't like each other and Tyrone will be keen to get payback for last years game.

We're not adept at coping with a blanket defense and especially in the league. Monaghan nearly pipped us with theirs, only for Durcan's last gasp winner. Galway's wore us right down and with no penetration from backs or forwards alike that game showed us how weak we were without Keith Higgins and Leeroy.

I recall the Tyrone league game two years ago in Castlebar when they smashed us and grabbed the 2 league points. We struggled carrying the ball and trying to get into the scoring zone. Weather will have an impact and sunny day with gentle breeze will suit us! Soft damp day may give impetus to Tyrone.

I would like to see Keith Higgins back for this as skills would help. I didn't see the Kildare game but squandering of scorable free's will cost us as in the Dublin game.

What's story with Clarke - has Hennelly grabbed his chance?

With Cillian out of sorts from the frees, Hennelly being able to hit the frees from 40+ yards could be handy. Hard to know though - tough choice to make!

stop it, there is no choice. Hennelly is fine for these games but Clarke is the only man in between the posts. Hennelly cannot jump and high balls will catch him out. Kildare are no great shakes as well so I wouldn't be going shouting about this game.

TBH I think the only reason there's even the notion of a contest is David Clarke's kickouts.No brainer otherwise.

Yes I agree - it is the only part I would say Hennelly is possibly better than Clarke but I would take that over the thought of a high ball been pumped in and Hennelly coming for it.

More good news Connaught Telegraph reporting the return of Chris Barrett to the squad this week.

Paddy Durcan is continuing his recovery from a leg injury while Zippy is scheduled to return to the panel when Mayo's National Hurling League campaign draws to a close.

I'm really struggling to remember a match at the top level where an underdog won a match solely down to the weather. No matter the conditions, generally the better team will come through

Why RTE (and the rest of the media) continue to give air time to outdated "look at me" spoofers like Bernard Flynn, is beyond me.

RTE need to do a complete clearing out of the likes of him, Tom Tommy Tom Tom Carr, Martin McHugh, Martin Carney, Brian Carty, Banty McEananey, Eugene McGee etc etc & go with some fresh blood. They know sweet fcuk all about the modern game, its players, management teams or tactics. Trying to make themselves relevant by spouting the rameis Flynn did last year about Mayo/Aido, just making them look like complete fools and not the wise, experienced sages their own egos tell them they are.

You forgot to include Ciaran Whelan in that list

Ciaran Whelan played this decade (granted, only barely) and played for the last Dublin manager. He also played alongside a lot of the players that are still in the squad. He would know a lot of them quite well, I imagine. He has something to offer as pundit imo, even if he commited the unforgiveable sin of being born a Dub.

Agree completely. Surely there are more gems like Tommy Walsh out there? I love listening to him talk hurling.

Yeah, Off The Ball are much, much better at getting recent players and managers on air, as opposd to the old fart brigade that RTE still keep hiring. That was one of the first things that occured to me when the news broke that Newstalk had lost the rights to games. There are fairly youngish people at the helm over there, so they understand the importance of having relevant, up to date pundits on. With Marty Morrissey in charge of GAA broadcasting in RTE, there is not a hope they will ever get that. He's about as hip as the Farrah slacks my dad wore in 1974. :rolleyes:

I actually like Whelan as a pundit. I think he is one of the best on rte.

What a load of rubbish, there's no difference at all between Mayo this year and last, maybe Coen has more game time, that's about it.

Loads of those idiots following each other in a circle jerk of regurgitated secondhand stories every year. Pretty soon Mayo will have a rep for only coming good in August, and it will last for years.

The biggest one was in 2013 when Mayo were set up to play Dublin, the line to spin for the country pundit was
