Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

Well, gave the two cars at home a quick wash & dry. The procedure was rinsed down, Chemical Guys Honeydew Snowfoam, rinsed, 2BM washed with the last of the AG shampoo, rinsed and dried. Then the mist started, stopping play.....

No pictures as I was too bloody lazy I'm afraid. Both badly need a detarring, claying etc but as usual, I'm chasing weather and time. The Octavia needs a proper polish so I need a couple of days of garage time. But there's a bloody MK2 Escort in the garage that doesn't need to be left outside in the rain (or I won't put it out in the rain).......

Wash the car for the first time in about two months. Gtechniq C2 is still holding up fairly well after about 5 months. Did have the heartbreaking moment of dropping a new mitt onto the stones

Gave the FR a light wax over the weekend then a quick wash and dry for the mazda2 1.5sport

So what would people recommend after the weather we’ve had. Car has been covered in snow approx 1 week now

hopefully the hydrO2 coating I gave it 2 weeks ago helped against the effects of being covered in snow for 7 days

Good jet wash down and a good wash.

If driving on gritted roads give underneath a good jet also.

Just a little question, looking for a good car shampoo recommendation. Backround once a week I powerhose down then garden sprayer on (proper dilution) autoglym TFR, spray on alloy cleaner & brushed, wash off & then wash with autoglym shampoo (washmit) wash off & towel dry. I find the shampoo good but lacks suds so cant really see where on the panel I’ve cleaned. Also a good black plastic mould dressing for the bottom of the door panels.

Look up the likes of detailingshed.com

They have the best of gear and products.

Bilt hamber shampoo her great reviews and have it myelf.
Can use as shampoo and snow foam.

For plastic get a ceramic coating will look 1000 times better then any of those spray on that last a day if that.
Look at quartz d-lux.

Been using Angelwax shampoo lately. I find it's pretty good and cheap. It's just under a tenner for 500ml

Even though the autoglym shampoo doesn't have much suds it works just as well as anything.

Literally two days before we got snow I waxed my dads BMW using Auto Glym High definition wax. Now the car wasn't driven during the storm but it made removing snow A LOT easier. It just slid off with ease. Definitely worth while.

Yeah I'm very happy with the AG HD shampoo too, just washed mine today with it and happy with the result (some parts need some tar removal though). Long way off most of the results posted here, but still learning

Never knew much about detailing until recently, very addictive ha.

Quick two bucket wash today. Needs a detar but I ran out of Tar X.

Waxed it with Collinite 845 before Christmas and it's still holding up well.

I've also been using Angel Wax Vision & H2GO on the windscreen the last while and I think it's the best glass cleaner and repellant I've ever used.

Haven't put it on the blades (yet!), never really occurred to me to

I find 2 coats applied correctly and it lasts a good 3-4 weeks. I've been using it over the winter and getting at least that from it.

I would imagine you should get longer than that
Give the blades a really good clean before putting it on them.

Different in it is a better product
I did use RainX in 2010 with great success
I could never get the same results after so went in search of other products.
H2Go does it brilliantly.

I finally got off me ar$e and did a few odd jobs, started about 9:45 and finished at 18:45 (stopping for lunch and dinner alright).

The process was

Foamed with GC Honeydew snowfoam
Rinsed down
Washed with AG shampoo (and a squeeze of GC Honeydew foam added to the bucket)
Rinsed down
Clayed with a claycloth and a mix of washing up liqued and CarPro Immolube
Rinsed down (for the last time)

As there are lots of decals on the vehicle, I didn't use anything like CarPro Eraser as I'm afraid of the decals lifting. The next steps were fun.....

CarPro Reload on the paint (used a damp Crazy Pile to apply, and another to buff)
Wheels also done with Reload (as that's what I had to hand)
Tyres with CarPro PERL 1:1.5 in water
All non painted plastics (door handles, mirrors, outside box door frames, etc) CarPro PERL 1:3 in Water

The Microfiber Madness Incredipole made life SO much easier as I was able to reach across the roof. I also discovered that if you took the wash mitt off, it's fantastic to use for wrapping microfibres around. As I left the inner sponge on, it evened out the pressure I was applying (How else was I to get the Reload on the luton?)

Anyway, the various contraptions used to get to the various parts of the roof (under roof vents, solar panels, TV aerials, etc) and yes, that's a small wheel woolies brush taped to a piece of electrical conduit. It's fierce handy as it's so flexible, and the middle size wheel wooly fits in to the other end perfectly.

Now, that's one done, I've another one lined up next......

Edit, forgot to add, there were one or three stubborn black streaks. They were tackled with Mudbuster Caravan and Motorhome cleaner and the claycloth finished them off. Also, the lower cab and wheels got a shot of CarPro TarX and rinsed off

Arms, legs and back are stiff... can only mean one thing. The car got waxed yesterday. Noticed doing it that there's quite a bit of tar on her so ordered some TarX and Bilt Hammer clay from Detailing Shed and I'll do it again next week.

Usual process was BH foam, BH wheel, two buckets, Dry Me Crazy towel (although lazily I let the car dry naturally in parts and the wax sealed in the bloody water marks). Used the Microfibre Madness buffing cloth for the first time to remove to application of 50 Cal Pentawax and would recommend to anyone.

First time using Poorboy's Wheel Sealant and it was really easy to apply/remove. Adds a bit of time to an already long washing process but I just want to keep the wheels fresh, particularly the two I've had refurbed in Wheel Wizards recently which are mint.

Gave the mazda sport a nice fresh bitta wax this weekend , noticed theirs a fair amount of tar embedded in the paint lately anyone know where I can find that tarX stuff?
