According to my car thermometer, it is 0 degrees in KK town. Not a shred of frost out there, not one little sparkle. A lot of cloud - could see the moon behind. Lovely rich deep yellow blob. No straight to the bone cold though. Hardly worth the five minute pre-warm up of the car.

Latest 00Z GFS has the low slightly further south east, making it even less marginal. Looks like a very good event.

-1.6c here in West Clare and all is frozen.

**** this . I'm seriously worried I won't be able to land on Thursday evening now.
I'm flying in at 7pm. Hopefully the heavy stuff stays away until Friday.

It's you Vs the rest of the country on that one. Most of us are hoping for Armageddon.

Everybody has talked/argued themselves out! :pac:

Seems like a nice/springlike morning here in Dublin. Dry and calm.

    Not everyone :-)

You'll be hard pressed to find a farmer cheering this on. Snow can be misery - frozen pipes, freezing livestock and, most alarmingly for this time of the year, zero grass growth. Farmageddon.

-2c and not much frost in Kildare

Forcing myself to get up this morning to go to the gym before work as it looks like that could be a struggle the next few days. Bone dry, no ice but mightily cold here in Dublin 1.

"The show is about to begin, this has just been the orchestra tuning up."

MT's words in the technical thread, put the hairs on the back of my neck up!!

ECM projected snow accumulation by Friday night/Saturday morning

    https://weather.us/model-charts/euro/ireland/snow-depth-in/20180303-0000z.html

That's off the scale for the east. South badly hit as well.

I absolutely love when it gets to the point where we are watching the radar

Off to work in Eastpoint, view out over Dublin bay so bring it on

Is it possible to give a rough guide to the counties most at risk at this stage if this is an all out blizzard thurs/ Friday?

-2 in Watergrasshill in Cork. No frost on the cars. Drove into work in the City and the temp was +1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,140 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

    Slight frost on the car.
Galway city reading -3.5 in the car, strange that it was the same in rural Galway too, the city is normally at least a degree warmer.

It's all so exciting. The anticipation. Counting down for MT forecast. Dropping into the tec thread and having a nose around and quickly coming back in here to have it explained. Thanks so much to all the knowledgeable posters.Shall be on the band wagon refreshing away.🀀🀀

Advised an elderly relative to put salt around the house before the snow comes and was met with indignation! 🙄

Hope he takes it on as always in and out to the garage where they store a lot of fridge stuff. This is going to be hip fracture weather for a lot of people.

Meanwhile on Carlingford Lough it's 0°, calm and cloudy, you'd never know what's on the way!

EC has not evolved into one of last nights colder members and would bring thaw late saturday. depending on cloudcover but certainly in south and near east coast. Big snow before it

Is evening rush hour in Dublin likely to be disrupted today?

It just struck me that now we'll see if an Azores low acts like an Azores high and stays away from Ireland.

Update, in the past 24h that Franz Josef Land high has totally transferred over to northern Norway/Finland at similar 1052 mb pressures.

maybe they only stay away in summer :-)
