What a shambles Cork gaa is at the moment. Hurlers will now more than likely go down to division 1b. Both teams lost again. Not surprised with the footballers they are abysmal. Its going to be a long summer for Cork gaa fans

Ah would you stop. It's only February. Last time we got to a final we got relegated, the league means very little come championship.

I won't stop. Our county teams will be annihilated come championship. We still need to be winning games. Look at the Dublins the Kerry's and the Tipperarya they still want to win games even though it's still only Febraury. Do you accept that a team like Cork with all its hurling tradition and all irelands won should play division 2 hurling next year? Do you accept that Cork hurling is getting so bad that even Kerry can beat us? No disrespect to Kerry. GAA is in big trouble in the county and you can mark my words it won't change anytime soon. Pathetic that both teams lost today. The footballers losing to Cavan is bad enough. Hurlers losing to Waterford, a team that didn't look like beating anyone previously, red certainly didn't help.

But the pitch. Jesus it was as awful as the performances, just awful.
Unacceptable that half the pitch was basically a beach.

For the money that was put into the redevelopment of the Pairc that pitch is inexcusable. Looks awful on tv

There was, certainly. Only for the red I am confident we would have beaten a team that every other team beat handily enough. But we lost and are only ahead of them on point difference.
That's what matters. Now we have a tough game with Tip made all the tougher by needing to win and need a favour from kk. Relegation playoff beckons. Another game though. We shouldnt be in this situation but such is life.

OMG what a shambles that new WORLD CLASS stadium is. Especially for hurling on TV.

Small little WHITE ball against the backdrop of an empty WHITE SEAT stadium and long WHITE goal posts just to make sure we couldn't possibly see the little white ball going for a score.

80 odd million €€€€€€€ spent of PREMIUM seats etc. etc. Concrete and steel by the tens of tons and NO FIELD to play on.

That effort by Cork County Board is a total disgrace and an affront to the intelligence of GAA followers.

OH, and I almost forgot about the lack of parking.

Actually didn't realise how bad the pitch was today until I watched the highlights just there, the southern side looks like sand. I noticed dust flying at times watching live but I had no idea it was that bad. I heard Croke Park had a shocking surface after renovation as well, is that a myth? I'm a bit young to remember..

There is less sand in fecking garryvoe beach than in the pairc today.

Pitch surface was a shambles, it was embarrassing to see it on TV. It was coming up in strips, so much for all the millions spent. All my Limerick and Kerry friends are having a good laugh at us in Cork. Austin Stack Stadium was redelovped last year and the playing surface was excellent, we wer told that we had cutting edge technology being used in this development. Somebody got this all wrong.

Pretty much said all of the above comments to the father yesterday watching the hurling

- May as well have played at the beach
- Didn't Croke Park have huge problems with the surface at first
- Poor enough that both teams lost at home

Nobody is laughing at Cork GAA though, that comment is OTT for February

The footballers need a LOT of work no doubt about it but they've been trying new players which is encouraging to see. Casey in goal (despite not being great from kickouts), is a good stopper, Matty Taylor is a future wing back I'm sure, Sam Ryan for the Barrs etc.

Not to mention you've lost Cadogan & Shields in the backline & Kerrigan & Connolly would be sorely missed from any forward line, but most importantly, there's experience missing there. I do think the footballers have too many passengers from the past few years also, but they're very much a work in progress.

Hurlers - will judge come championship. Not an ideal scenario possibly going down but Galway went down last year didn't they? That has them coming in very much under the radar this year and they're the reigning champions.

But yeah, I don't think it's all doom and gloom but a poor showing this weekend at home, compounded by the state of the pitch. The CCB are hopefully as proud as some of the posters here and will get it sorted immediately.

Took a gang of kids from the local GAA club so I couldn't park away from PUC and walk but sweet lord the shambles getting out (parking at the Marquee grounds) was something else. Having the gates locked while hundreds of cars were trying to exit..amazing stuff, I'd love to know meet the genius who came up with that one.

As already mentioned, the pitch was a joke. If you can't have a good playing surface in a stadium that has just undergone a 70m refurb then something is seriously wrong.
I couldn't help notice how well the bars and shops were staffed, there seems to be more emphasis on beer and crap than on a top class playing surface for players who deserve it.

I may be wrong but bar/concession staffing has nothing to do with the GAA; that would be the decision of whoever is renting the concession space???

But I agree on the two main issues - pitch surface was terrible - all the excuses in the world can't make that okay, & from day 1 the access/parking for the stadium has been an issue...

On the pitch situation, you had stewards walking onto the pitch between the two game and pushing down divots. You would expect to see ground staff out fixing divots but not stewards.

Oh yes 100% but in terms of the numbers working there, which was your point, it has nothing to do with the GAA - that is up to the concession companies to decide how many they need to achieve their targets in terms of throughput etc.

A Cork spokesperson said some sand will continue to be used in general pitch maintenance and put the condition of the surface down to the time of year and the fact that it had two games on the bounce, stressing that a relatively new surface still needs time to bed in.

I do think the fact that the surface is new is playing a part, but this should have been planned for from the start. Realistically what could they be doing now to improve the surface? Even if they did everything they could to sort out the surface, could it be in good condition in time for (hopefully) a home league QF or (hopefully not) a home relegation playoff?
