agree with all of this , touhy is the best shot stopper out of all the keepers we have used over the last 12 months , he probably dose not have the same long range of the others but a big half forward line would be able to adjust to them

regards the forward line , podge was poor o'donnell was marked out of it while duggan looked out of place inside , our best 14 come championship should be conlon he is way more effective inside

frees , duggan scored 8 missed 6 , the ones he missed were the scoreable ones , would be a better letting reidy or deasy take the short ones today , in truth 2 of the 8 scored were 65s and one from inside his own half , maybe we need to look at him being our new seanie mcmahon and let reidy take the shorter ones come championship ,

duggan is too valuable to drop at the moment but would like to see himself and conlon swap position

Caught the game late, infairness most of the points of the game are already made.

Just a few others imo, I thought Clare's stickwork and movement was very good for the first 40, alot through Galvin, and we got some nice scores. Cork's ones were mainly frees or individual long range efforts, that said they were missing a couple so Clare really can't read too much into Cork's performance . Still though we had some good displays. Delighted for young O'Malley, the kid plays with good confidence and tenacity but his the skill to back it up. One thing I noticed was Peter Duggan's workrate. Not something I would consider a strong part of Duggan's game, but he spoiled alot of Cork ball. I'd like to see him start at wing forward sometime during the league with Conlon inside. Without sounding like a broken record but Reidy was excellent again, his turn of pace is frightening but crucially he uses it well. I thought Podge got himself into some great positions but his touch let him down, he may well play a crucial part in our summer yet when he is more sharper.

Just for fun, Clare's scoring stats:

Total scores in 1st half = 48 points (average 16 points)
Total scores in 2nd half = 23 points (average 7.7 points)

I'm not sure how there is such a drop off at half time. In fairness we did win the second half against Tipp but it is a concern we are not playing so well after the break. I think it maybe tiredness playing a part in that our shooting and discipline is suffering, we have had a load of wides and frees given away so far this league. Have to keep our focus, all teams at this level will have a purple patch.

Anyway plenty to work on. Now that we are in the playoffs hopefully we will get to see some more lads been given a chance; Ian Galvin, Jason McCarthy, Eoin Quirke, etc. I think Jamie Shanahan is back training. Also Conor McGrath needs game time, he looks very rusty.

I'd nearly consider carrying him to be guaranteed a 100% return from frees, by having a free taker with a 70% return rate means defenders will foul out forwards as it's a better option than letting them through on goal or have a shot.

david reidy was excellent once again along with galvin , the formation of the side suites the players also , the sweeper system can only do so much , the team is playing a style of hurling more suited to what they play with there clubs

its important we sharpen up on the shooting stakes though but things going well at the moment but not getting carried away its only the 18 of February

There are glaring reasons why he was overlooked.
talent is a fraction of whats required for senior intercounty
He seems to have corrected those to a large extent.
an extremely talented player who was not a team player in any sense but he has clearly matured significantly
He has had a massive change in attitude in the last two years

has anyone considered the possibility here that despite us being lumped in with wexford as being massively geared up for the league and using our first fifteen we are, in actual fact miles off our peak as yet.

we are not hurling consistently through the 70 minutes suggesting a bit of room for improvement in fitness
we are creating but not finishing goal and point chances suggesting we have a bit of sharpening up to do and
lastly we have approximately 8 players returning from injury all of whom could conceivably make the match day 26
come the summer

we are supposed to have played our first 15 against cork and they have coleman Fitzgibbon cahalane and cadogan to come in but equally fitzgerald Malone and McGrath will almost certainly start in the summer and Dillon and shanahan must be serious contenders in the full back line and half back line as well

St Flannans are into the final of the Munster Post Primary Schools UNDER 16.5 A Football Final after victory over High School Clonmel. Don't know the final score but the Ennis school will play St Brendans Killarney in the final. This is coming on top of the Under 15 A football success last December so things are progressing very well in relation to the big ball in Flannans.

Also St Johns Bosco Kildysart won the Under 18.5 E football final after a 14 point win over Meanscoil san nicolas of Rinn, Waterford

Any particular reason why mcgrath hasn't been starting?

For those travelling to Newry or Wexford Park today, I hope that you brought extra layers with you. It's baltic. Just wondering about the Clare senior football panel. Is David Egan (Kilmihil) still on the Clare panel or is he injured? I think that he was involved in the panel early in the year, but have not seen his name in the match-day panel since? Greatly appreciate if someone can shed any light on him as he is a player with huge talent.

Great result for the footballers in down, 1-12 to either 1-11 or 1-10 depending if you want to believe Clare or Down's twitter feed

According to RTÉ the score for the footballers was 1-12 to 1-10, Down hit 15 wides, another red card for Clare

J@ysus division 2 is very tight, Clare have only lost 1 match and they are 3rd from the bottom, awful pity they couldn't turn 1 of those draws into a win would make the world of difference.

We've Roscommon & Louth at home and Cork away, to be sure of staying up we'd need to be winning 2 of those but I think 1 could be enough

The Louth match is a guaranteed 2 points for us. Cork were very poor today and Roscommon lost by 5 against Down two weeks ago. If we can win against the rossies next week then I think we will be okay. One thing is for certain 5 points will not be enough. That was our total from the 7 games we played in the league in 2017 where we just survived in Div.2. Fingers crossed also that our 2nd half collapse against Meath will not return to haunt us regarding points difference.

Anyways a huge win. Sean O'Donoghue, Gary Brennan and Eoin Cleary were one of our many heroes today. Congrats to one and all. Why did Ciaran Russell get sent off though?

I think we'll need 7 points to be sure but that's because of our score difference, I'd like to think Louth is a guaranteed 2 points but if we are going into that needing a win I wouldn't be overly confident. The games are going to come fairly quick now as well so squad management will be paramount.

excellent win for the footbalers , kick started by a goal by sean o'Donahue insde 30 seconds of the start after a 50 yard run from the throw in , a keelan sexton point quickly followed before down fought back to draw level mid way through the half an excellent free from the sideline followed by a sidline ball from cleary put us two up before two well worked scores from david tubridy kerian malone and cian o'dea had us in the driving seat ,

down for there sins kicked 8 first half wides , most of which were from ridiculous angles or from frees , the home side would go on to kick 15 in total through out the game , lacking a left footed free taker they kicked some terrible wides ,

in the second clare went into counter attack mode as down raised the tempo , the home side had a chance to bring the game back to 1 early in the second from a penilty before daragh o'hanlon put the effort over the bar , clare picked off down on the break with all there 3 second half scores , only one of which came from play from eoin collins the others from the boot of eoin cleary on frees , in between that down continued to be wasteful a mixture of bad frees and good clare defense the cause

the sending off of ciaran russell was somewhat foolish as it appeared he took a down player out of it in a 3rd man tackle off the ball , that and the kickouts which still remain a problem would be the only negatives on what was our best performance of the league so far ,

positives : performances are starting to improve , we look a million miles better from the first two games against cavan and meath especially , and with 3 games to go two of which at home i would expect us to finish in a comfortable possition away from the drop zone , a repeat of our first half performance today next week against rosscommon and we wont be far away in that one , keelan sexton , eoin cleary , sean o'donahue , by far the best performers in the saffron and blue today

As a Wexford man we delighted we got the win, We were very poor in the first half hitting twelve wides and Clare deserved the lead. Have a question for my Clare friends , what is gone wrong with Podge Collins and Shane O Donnell? Was really wary of these as well as Reidy at half forward, our 2 corner backs are rookies at this level with both doing their leaving cert last year and yet they had the easiest of days. Second half with Chin injured we played well and cut out silly frees. Backs got to grips with Clare's forwards with Ryan and O Hanlon dominating Conlon and Peter Duggan. Reidy was well marshalled by O Keeffe,his best display this year. Plenty to improve on but delighted to stay in Div 1
