Mayo GAA Discussion - Part 3

Welcome to the Mayo GAA discussion thread - Chapter 3, yer trotting them out quicker than a Mills & Boon Romance !.

This is one of the most active forums on Boards.ie. As a result, discussion can get quite heated. But there are certain things posters must realise are simply not OK to post:

- Personal abuse

- Rumours about players'/managers'/anyone's personal lives.

- Trolling.

- Accusations of trolling. Report a post if you suspect it to be trolling.

He’s come on as a sub on a few occasions recently. Was on the development panel last year so Rochford clearly has him as part of the plans.
I know he had some hip surgery a few years ago that kept him out for a year or so, at least out from county.
Conor Loftus seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
I think he’s good, but I don’t see him taking a start ahead of either the 2 O’Connors, Jason Doc, Andy, McLoughlin or Aido, barring any of those being unavailable through Injury or suspension.

He was really good the first year in the League but went away after that. I thought he really wanted to have a crack last sunday but the game was running away from us. He has got bigger and looks stronger so it would be great for him if he got a bit of luck to push on into the team

super eights may take its toll on players, id say that was what rochford was eyeing up last sunday. all the new players getting game time he will need (As all counties will) a healthy supply of subs for all positions.

If mayo win Connacht the number of games they will have to play will be the same as last year.!
The super eights amounts to just two extra games being played by any team,as I see it.

extra games is more likelihood of injury. and extra games in a tighter (or possible the same time period in 2018 due to popes visit) will mean that minor injuries might not be healed in the period between matches.

That's quite a lot of games for even the strongest of panels to cope with.

The TribesmenGAA account on Twitter had to remind people during the week that theirs was the only official Galway supporters account and to ignore a bunch of fake accounts that seem to be gaining traction but are clearly run by troublemakers.

Its not an official account - it is ran by some nobody with no connection to the Galway county board.

Dead on, 17k followers, would still need to cop the fk on. Not helping things. Like a bunch of soccer fans over these pages. Mayo Banter and Hill16 are run by trolls with no actual interest in the game aside from slagging other teams and players.

I can see why the page has so many followers as there does be some very interesting pieces on it. The tone of the page is dragged down though when he posts pictures like we see above. Think Galway GAA released some statement last year that it wasn't official as well because of something that was posted. Could be mistaken on that but I've a vague memory of it.

I was just going to post that we can't be too far from the day that senior panelists cannot play under 20 for their county, but a quick Google tells me it is being implemented this year. Not before time!

I know Stephen coen isn't under 20 but in a general sense I always thought it was crazy players playing both under 21 and senior

Agree, I never go on facebook anymore really but got tagged in some nonsense after the match last sunday

Some of the comments from Galway people I know actually beggared belief. Well educated people aswell, engaging in absolute juvenile points scoring

There must be something about going on these pages that causes some people's intelligence and common sense to drop an alarming amount.

That said a lot of the comments on the Mayo blog aswell are embarrassing, so I'm not directing this at a particular county. Assume it's kids/teenagers in a lot of these cases too though?

As you say life is way too short.

Twitter is even worse though. there's a worrying amount of unhinged people on it. I think a lot of these anonymous accounts you see on it are complete spoof-jobs though

Anyhow I'm veering wayyy off topic apologies

They are playing two games per week. Shouldn't be an issue if managed properly by coaches.

That's a very simplistic way of looking at it though.

Playing for two teams 200 odd miles apart is hardly ideal. Given all the travelling that's needed to fulfill his Mayo obligations as well as pursuing a degree (perhaps even working part-time also?) it's a heavy burden on a young man

How many training sessions would he currently have a week, also?

At the end of the day Stephen Coen is one of 30-something in the Mayo squad, it's extremely difficult to manage each individual player's schedule to the nth degree in a non-professional environment

I don't read any of them anymore. I know for a fact that some are literally run by kids.

The Mayo GAA Blog is alright. I'm not a fan of how the comments are laid out though. It can be a real eye sore to read, also let's just say that the moderating is heavy handed.

Agreed though, there's an awful lot of tools commenting online. You'd never find that here, ever!
