It's how I use to clean my dad's Opel Kadett years ago.

I was staring out the window at my car in my mam's driveway and thought I saw a scratch over the rear wheel arch. There wasn't, but I saw a load of light scratches.

I haven't looked over the car as when it's parked in my apartment I don't have a lot of room to look. One is a large zigzag scratch in the middle of the passenger door and the others are a series of scratches on the rear arch past the passenger door, but only on the arch nothing on the door. It's a lot of scratches in a row.

I haven't really looked at the car in the light to check for scratches and I couldn't feel them with my fingernail but it still sucks to see.

I might wash it tomorrow and see what it's really like. I know light scratches happen but I was surprised to see so many of them.

Maybe it might be worth putting some sort of protection on if it would even help?

I'm looking for suggestions if anyone has any ideas.

I'm £5.00 short on my order to get free delivery on amazon but I don't know what to get. I thought it would be easy to find some car cleaning item for £5.00 but I'm struggling. I have plenty of microfiber cloths and I don't really use the detailing brushes.

Any suggestions?

Any advice on getting rid of the marks left behind on a second hand van which used to have letters/signage on the side? It's white.

You'll need to get the affected panels machine polished.

What happens is that the areas that aren't covered are open to the elements, wash damage etc and the covered areas are not damaged at all.

I'm not familiar with how stickers/signage are put on a van. Could it be residual adhesive? I have a rotary and a DA so the polishing will not be an issue but should I try some form of adhesive remover first?

While there may be residual adhesive, 90% of the issue is that the paint underneath the signage was protected from damage by the signage.

You can try a tar/adhesive remover but from my experience you will see your preferred outcome by polishing.

Ya, I would not use it to wash my bike. At that price, taking store profit, distribution costs and packaging cost, there is not a whole lot left for actual shampoo. I'd hazard a guess at saying it's fair dilute.

The only positive is that it's pH neutral, but then again, so is water (almost)

Look up detailingshed.com

Curran on here will look after you for anything needed.

I got tar remover and all the gear and it's proper good stuff.

Petrol as a last resort will remove the glue but other products would be better.
Get a good cutting polish and finishing polish.

If done right it will look like it never had branding on it.

Have you any pictures of the panels in question.

I might be residue but you'll almost certainly be left with a ghosting effect too. Where there was no signage, is subject to all elements; wash damage, contamination, UV damage, etc, so when signage is removed, the paintwork underneath has been protected from this and will be in a much better condition. This is enough to leave the area looking like it has an almost camouflaged sign still in place!

I'm not in to detailing as such but like to keep the cars clean and shining. Being an OAP I'm not going to great lengths but wash the cars at least once a week (pre wash, wash, and dry) and wax a few times a year. What I'm wondering is, what products you'd recommend to keep the exterior black plastics in good order. Both are new cars and I would like to keep them looking good. Something not too expensive and available in the likes of Halfords.

Given that both cars are new, and havent yet had any damage, anything from Halford's would be somewhat wasted - most are for restoring, and anything that is labelled as protection, while it might, it wont last too long and will be a sticky messy product to work with.

If you want protection, and not have to worry about it for up to 18 months (rather than weekly application) then I would suggest considering ceramics, but alas not on Halfords shelves, and not exactly in the 'not too expensive' bracket either....but when all things are considered; single use, time saved, UV & Chemical resistance with factory finish; the additional cost is well recouped.

Thank you. Yes, Never was happy over the years with those "Back to Black" type sprays.

Any particular products suited to the black plastic trims and flaps?

This is exactly what it looks like. My current plan is to start on one letter and see what type of pad and polish combo does the best job. I'll prob dump the pad after that because my fear is that some of the adhesive will get into it.

While I am at it, what's everyone's favourite tar remover and their preferred method of removing tar.

Let's pretend I don't want to polish the car after removing it :pac:

I use Gtechniq W7 and CarPro Tar-X. Both very good products and I can't decide which I prefer but the only thing putting one above the other in any way is that the CarPro one smells really good
