Its actually got quite a nice engine, its a very good looking car, the interior is well spec'd and it is from a time when Peugeots had some degree of reliability.

If the tax was even half the price, it'd be worth close to the asking price I'd say. People just (understandably) will not pay the mental tax prices on pre 08 stuff unless the car is seriously exotic.

€1500 for motor tax? That's more than a months wages at minimum wage, it's 2 months mortgage payments on a 3 bed semi outside the pale, it's a lot of money for effectively nothing and as such, like you say it devalues (an otherwise lovely) car to the point of scrap value.

Errr, no. They were far from reliable, particularly electrics. I saw a few being scrapped through leccy faults that couldn't be found. I've seen lads with entire looms out of them trying to fix issues.

Be some machine alright if it was running ok, but for hundreds and not thousands.

Not really worth it at all. The mot history shows the sills were corroded

They're a fair lazy warm hatch too. And that's by 90's standards never mind early noughties.

I never understood why they were sort of put on a pedestal in the motors forum. They are flimsy enough and as you say electrics weren't their strong point. Even some of the facelift hdi's are known to self combust. It happened my neighbor's 02 406 a few years back.

NCT was passed out only about 3-4 months ago if even was it not ? NCT website shows May 2018 , clearly a typo

I'm not sure where you are getting your reliability issues from. I've driven 200k plus miles on 3 different versions of these cars and they are exceptionally reliable. Nothing other than serviceable things. Not even a clutch or flywheel on the one I had 200k+ miles on (bought it at 120k and hadn't been done prior to me getting it)

For a car designed 20+ years ago these have aged extremely well. They are unbelievably comfortable inside too.

I'm not talking about French cars in general as I know there are plenty of gremlins in plenty of models but this particular model is one of the best French cars I've ever driven.

Oh, and that one in the ad, was seriously overpriced. It's just the general downer on the car I was responding about

We'll have to agree to disagree. Having been an active member on the owners club and personally knowing multiple owners of them I would say most owners experiences were positive.

That's a pretty accurate assessment. I worked on enough of them when they were current. Like I said, I've seen some some with faults that simply couldn't be fixed. Now in my book that's pretty bad.

2 of the cars have no NCT. Ten years ago I paid €950 for a corolla very similar to the 1997 one he has for sale. The car is 21 years old, and has no NCT. No insurance company would probably touch it either.

Nobody will be buying them for business purposes but young lads down the country love them which is keeping prices over €1k. They are fairly indestructible and the 3dr is the best looking.

They cannot really be compared to the value of other early 90's car derived vans like a 306 or Escort van or whatever. The Corollas have a bit of a following.

As long as they can get insurance on them. They'd be sold in a shot down my part of the world, but would probably be back on donedeal a week later because no young lad could insure them - I see it all the time with stuff like Glanzas, or old vans.
