So two reports of the same forecasting body say such different things. In reality it will be at least this time next year before anyone can say if it worked or not.

2017 saw the US add 2.06 million new jobs, that would be the least amount since 2010.

GDP growth in 2017 was 2.3%, ahead of 2016 (1.5%) but below 2015 (2.9%) and 2014 (2.6%). The IMF has the US down for 2.7% GDP growth in 2018 and 2.5% in 2019 so miles away from the 5%+ Mnuchin is predicting.

Hey Noel, you are aware the majority of company's are giving once of bonuses with some of the tax, not salary increases. Some of them are even giving stock options which are only divested over years.

This ludicrous notion that it's lifting all boats is nothing more than speak. Something which you've clearly fallen for but I won't let that pass here.

These company's will be back to normal next year retaining the majority of any tax breaks and perhaps not even making this once off bonus permanent

Also, in cases, the bonuses in question are only being paid to employees of 20+ years. Plays nicely to a certain age group, the one that helped get him elected I guess. Though, even then the average American has spent less than 5 years on average in their current job.

What is striking is the similarities between Trump and Nixon (who Trump is on the record as admiring.

One thing that struck me was that the "ordinary blue collar worker" was sick and tired of the testimony and believed "the liberal press was out to get him" (sound familiar?)

Taking Walmart as an example, as it much touted about increasing its minimum wage and giving bonus/maternity etc.

But the savings in tax from the new tax rates is estimated at $2bn!

So yes people are getting wage increases, but a far more effective way would have been to pass a law increasing minimum wage, reduce personal taxes at a higher rate than they did so as to move the benefits from corporations to individuals.

The full impact of the law will not be known for some time. Businesses’ and individuals’ 2017 tax returns will not be directly affected. Returns for 2018, when the law takes effect, will not be filed until 2019.

All the rest of it is fake news.

It's a survey of how people feel and think. That's legitimate. At the start they fully acknowledge the actual full impact will not come through, for a year or two.

Don't discredit something, in the hope that other posters will then not take the time to read the actual article. Maybe, you didn't either.

You really don’t understand the meaning of the word fake. It is clear that it will be at least a year or two before anyone can say if the reform is good or bad. Until then it is the law and if it works out will be good news for GOP if on the other hand it goes south then whatch the GOP blame everyone else and call it fake news.

So anything we are seeing in terms of bonus etc are down to other factors not the tax plan, most likely the effects of continued growth set in train by Obama

Their complete denial of the origin of the document that Nunes memo is based on is purely political, as is their accusation that the Democrats are playing political games with the memo. The idea is not what is in the memo, the idea is to create a perception that there is something rotten in the FBI.

It seems most people will only see the twitter feed and/or headlines. The details are not important
