Funnily my dad got his Aviva renewal out this year.

He paid €507 last year for fully comp, himself and my mam only driving, full NCD protection. He is 63 and retired / part time farmer. Car is a 2013 2l avensis.

He had a claim mid year for €5000 when my man crashed into a van. Thankfully no injury claim came through and the claim has settled.

Renewal arrived for €485 all in.

He was delighted with that and the speed and ease of the claims process.

Just a follow-up for info. Aviva were completely incompetent, feckless, frustrating, inept, clueless. They quite understandably wanted proof that I'd cancelled the UK policy as well as evidence of the no claims bonus before we could take out a policy with them. Fair enough, obtained .PDF evidence of no claims from UK insurer which also stated the policy end date as 18/01/18, and sent to Aviva by email. Phoned them later the same day. "Thanks, we will need to send this all over to the underwriters for authorisation, it might take some time, phone us back in a week!" A bloody week, we live out in the middle of nowhere and have no other means of transport. They hadn't given us any indication that there would be a significant delay while they dithered over the documentation.

They finally got back to me and said that because the final period of cover on the UK policy was less than a full year (I'd cancelled the policy last week, 6 months from renewal) that it would not be sufficient evidence of 5 full years no claims discount. This despite the evidence of no claims document from Direct Line UK stating 10 years no claims discount (we're actually 20+ years claim free but the bonus maxes out at 10). So how does a document confirming 9 1/2 years NCD not satisfy a requirement to prove at least 5 years NCD? They can't even count! F&$*wits!!

Sent Aviva a snotty e-mail and paid €480 for the An Post policy, €100 dearer but they were a pleasure to deal, phoned me back when they said they would, sent documents promptly with and I got the impression that they were capable of tying their own shoelaces.

I wouldn't touch Aviva with a s**tty stick!

Tried to better my quote of €1930 but no joy so it's basically increased€100-€150 a year the last 4 years.

Comprehensive Insurance with protected NCB, Breakdown Assist etc.

Last year with Aviva was €445. Renewal came in at €375. No point in looking for other quotes, Will just renew with Aviva.

Cantona's Collars

The wife's car insurance last year was €500.

The reason was "over 10 years old and big engine."

Upgraded to a newer car, smaller engine.The spiel from insurance companies was "older cars are more of a risk,newer cars attract lower premiums" Lol.
Anyhow,new quote arrived and comes in at €675. They can do one.

Happened to a mate of mine when he bought a car many years ago, for some reason he had the insurance start at midnight. He went out to check on it just before midnight and it was gone. (Un)fortunately a police car happened to be passing so he flagged it down and reported the car stolen so it was on record that the vehicle had been stolen prior to the insurance cover starting. Guess what though, they paid out!!

Renewal €870 Fully Comp, €839 TPFT

Last year I paid about €1000 TPFT on a 2.5 Mondeo (which was decent imo), however mid policy when I wanted to change over to a different 1.8 Civic they wanted 400 extra, i stuck with the Mondeo. Naturally though I thought they were going to rape me on my renewal this year but clearly not.

Only issue is that when I turn 25 in the summer they still wont allow me third party extension until my policy is up again in Feb 19 which is really annoying so I'm gonna do some more shopping around but so far they do seem the cheapest followed by FBD @1100.

Chill insurance with Asgard and AXA seem the most expensive at nearly €2k :eek:

If I am to hit 25 years of age on 28th of May and my insurance is up on 25th of May, from what I heard - you're no longer young driver after 25, can I somehow coast without insurance for 3 days (would just work from home) or will all my 6 years NCB be gone?

2 quotes that actually work out better than the previous year and you come out with this.

Quotes should come down or at least stay level for people when nothing changes in their details bar age, age of car and 1 year more NCB.
Not increase with, for me for instance, 25%.

To be honest those quotes above seem very reasonable to me. You also cannot compare UK insurance prices against Irish but also just be glad you have a modern small diesel engine or you would also have a bitter pill to swallow to tax the car.
