Buying bitcoins

Heh guys,

I've been doing a bit of research the last week into buying bitcoins.. I want to buy 1k worth, I know it's risky but I have it to spare and might just see how it goes for a year or so..

I have currently registered on mtgox.com and am awaiting approval on my Id verification.. Has anyone dealt with this site have any info for me?

If I put my money on mtgox that means I have to trust them with my bitcoins is this correct? I won't have to have a wallet on my computer?

I'm just basically asking for advice, it's what I want to do but if someone can explain the best way about it that knows more than me I would appreciate it

Money flowing into alts now, only happens when BTC is stable.Market cap for alts increasing while Bitcoin dominance is decreasing, Like most people when they first buy Bitcoin they then discover a world of different Cryptocurrencies and more exchanges other than Coinbase. Can't believe the market cap is over 500 billion, i was telling friends it should be over 100 billion by end of year back in May

I wouldnt be buying any crypto right now tbh, dont even remember what I did at work today I was just mentally wrestling with whether or not to dump my ETH or not. I really do think $1000 and probably €1000 ETH is inbound now and 20k for BTC, Coinbase still the number 1 app on the appstore and still working through a huge backlog of signups.

Reading that post^ back is very close to pyramid scheme talk

Can't seem to find a reliable answer to this online, hopefully someone can help.

I held Bitcoin on Coinbase prior to the Bitcoin Cash fork, which I subsequently lost the balls to hold and panic sold in mid September.

If Coinbase get around to giving their users the BCH they're holding, will I be able to claim it?

Yes is the simple answer as they took a snapshot of the blockchain at the time of the fork and they hold your private keys. Example in my case was getting the exact amount of bitcoin cash is I had bitcoins at the time of the fork even though I subsequently moved some of them elsewhere afterwards. Something similar with Bittrex and Bitcoin Gold.

Happened me too. Kinda reduced my nice 50 euro Bitcoin Christmas present to a less impressive 38 euros

Some places have stopped BTC transactions because of backlogs. seems the only way to send anything at the moment is with a big fee to have the transaction confirmed in a decent time.

I got an email from Hashflare yesterday saying their BTC processor is backlogged and Hashflare have suspended all BTC transactions from a bunch of wallets.

Just found out that theirs another fork of Bitcoin :- Super Bitcoin Super Bitcoin website
If you held Bitcoins on the 12th Of December then you will have SuperBitcoin also. Its going to be listed on the HitBtc exchange in the next few days.

The snapshot was taken at Block #498888. If you held Bitcoin at that block then you will have Super Bitcoin

I found some bitcoin I had in a localbitcoins wallet from 2012, does this mean I qualify for all the forks such as bitcoin cash and this superbitcoin?
