I have an elderly friend who is getting a raw deal from sky and I have heard great things about this box so if anyone has it can you say how easy it is to use, especially for recording and does it do series link. bear in mind person is elderly and thinks sky is great until it goes belly up and you have to ring them.

I know a bit about images, ie vix, openatv, openpli, blackhole etc but this box has to be easy peasy or I will spend all my time on the phone.

As KK once said " i would love it, just lov it, " if I could ..... sk.

are you using a uk card they mention payment in sterling only. I just tried and had no issues, they double check billing address as well so make sure billing and shipping match. failing that give them a call.

If you have an existing Sky dish it uses the same satellites as the FTA stuff. Sky Q dishes need a different LNB (the yoke on the dish arm) for normal boxes to work.
Here is the complete list of free channels currently available on the 28.2E suite of satellites.

Gerry thanks not a sky customer, Virgin analog cable so no dish. I never get to watch all of those channels but just about enough to keep me happy. Any installer will be able to pick up this Astra satellite.

I had one delivered in 2 days directly from them for about a tenner, don't think there is much saving with parcel motel.

If I currently have chorus (yes it's an old connection that I don't even pay for but only has like 10 channels) available on my TV will the satellite that this is using be sufficient of I get the formuler f1 box?

No you will need your own dish for UK channels and an aerial for Irish channels. Are you getting UK channels now or just the Irish ones?

Yes, that includes the shipping price, cheapest in Ireland with a trade account will cost you €140 from satworld as far as I know.

Yes they can be configured to use a remote NAS but I have never tried this so cannot say how reliable or efficient it would be.
You can stream either live or recorded to any device on your home network that has a web browser. If your BB is up to it you could also set up a noip type address for the box and access it from outside the home.

Took a punt on one based on this Thread ! It seems like a genuinely good deal for a decent triple tuner

I currently have an Amiko Alien 2+, that I've never really been fully happy with. It often crashes and suffers from freezes, which is very annoying for the OH, etc.

Anyone upgrade from the Amiko to this box? Do folks think this box is more reliable and might resolve these reliability issues?

Yes,its definitely worth the upgrade ,its a much more powerful receiver and Mips based so it supports more plugins.
Its a dual core cpu running at 1.3Ghz ,the Alien only runs @550Mhz .
Much more Ram and flash storage space on the Formuler too .

The Alien was a great box for its time ,but dual and triple tuners are much cheaper now so its no longer a good buy in my opinion.

The picture quality on the Aliens cant be beaten though ,no Mips or Arm based receiver comes close for SD and HD.

The engine of a Ferrari perhaps but not the bodywork of a Ferrari ,the picture on the Alien is nicer :P

Update: worked out at €125 delivered, including the optional Wi-Fi adaptor, vs €164 from Satworld without Wi-Fi, so a decent saving.

I've a lovely Pioneer Plasma, but to be honest, most of what we watch on sat is casual viewing, mostly Cbeebies and background TV in the evenings, Masterchief, etc.

Movies and quality TV shows (e.g. Game of Thrones, etc.) are mostly off Bluray or Plex via Nvidia Shield TV.

I've really liked the AA2, but the issue has been reliability and that impact on the family acceptance factor and visiting babysitters, etc. So worse picture quality in exchange for better reliability might be worth it given the nature of what it is mostly used for.

Though on another thread I see mention of putting OpenATV on AA2 improving reliability, so maybe that is worth giving a go first.

Also any recommendations on a box that might have the same picture quality of the AA2, but otherwise the specs close to the F1?
