Today I did some detailing...

We have the "Today I Did Something To My Car" thread out in the main forum, and a lot of the posts on it pertain to detailing.
I thought it would be a good idea to give our various detailing activities a thread in their proper home.

I'll get the ball rolling.

Today ( ahem, last night really!), I snow foamed the car
Wasn't able to follow through and wash it properly as my back went, but couldn't believe how well it looked this morning!
In fairness I have a fair bit of LSP on it, but there was ten days worth of road film and tree sap on it.

Well impressed.

Yes, a car should be washed before claying....I'd guess that the poster had washed it prior to de-tar'ing

What a day! Last night I was at the Skibb Car Club night navigation and got to bed at half 6 this morning after being at the event all night. It's strange to be going to bed when your alarm for getting up goes off! Anyway, I was back up at 9, ready for a day's fun. After 2 hours sleep, I decided the car needed a clean, and went kinda mad.....

The motorhome was washed with AG shampoo using the 2BM. Wheel arches, suspension arms/uprights/etc were sprayed with BH Surfix 1:3 in water, rubbed in and rinsed down. Wheels were BH Autowheels and the lot dried with a Dry-me-Crazy.

The Octavia got a similar wash and dry, but with all door shuts, etc done also.

The Leon was washed as above, detarred with CarPro Tar-X, washed, clayed, washed, dried and CarPro Reload. Wheels (and I forgot to detar one again) done the same way. The last of the Orchard Tyre Glitz was used on the tyres.

No pictures as I couldn't be bothered (and I left the phone inside the house and kinda forgot)
Sitting down now a small bit tired, thinking that I better not nod off on the couch as I probably won't wake until the morning....

Correct me if I'm wrong, so it's wash first then de-tar and de-iron? Do you need to wash after or just rinse then dry?

DaveyDave; a quick once over is advised but a good rinse with a power washer should suffice. After claying a wash is definitely necessary

My car was pretty dirty so said I'd wash it while it wasn't freezing. It's only about 3 weeks since it got a de tar,de iron, clay, full machine polish and sealant.

Clean the wheels with CG Diablo
Gtechniq Citrus Foam
CG Maxi Suds Grape. It seems too good
Then two coats of Carbon Collective Hybrid through the snow lance

It's looking clean and glossy until the trip to work in the morning

I have 3 euro premium car wash. Today is the last day I can use it. I Was thinking to use it because it seems that they change, from plastic structure brush to cloth brush (textile). I think the cloth is much better. Any of you had any experience with the latest upgrade?

Still no better for your car - the issue is not only the type of material used in the brush wash, but also the dirt on the surface being dragged over the paintwork.

Wouldn't the motion of something like that hitting the paintwork in itself also cause damage even without dirt on the surface being dragged over the paintwork?

I brought my mams car to one of those car washes similar to the second picture, but it was a more advanced one. Staff sprays a prewash more of a traffic film remover than a snow, sits a minute (but not long) and then the car wash rinses it off with jet washes, then it goes through two rounds of those flap things, then dried with powerful air jets twice.

I don't know if you get the same stuff on a basic wash, as the premium one does wax and all etc. Car is black and already swirled so no more harm should be done

I wouldn't bring my Golf to it, nor would I let any of the car park guys wash it. The only person other than me to wash it would be an actual detailer

Spent a good 4 hours giving the car a going over today. First proper clean in about 4 months (shameful I know). Did the following:

Full de-tar (Car was absolutely caked in it - Road outside the house was resurfaced recently)
Snow Foam
Iron X decontamination
Hand Wash
Wax

Heading to Wales in it later this month so wanted to have it in half decent shape.

Another few weeks and I will give it another going over, with a clay bar next time too.

A quick plug for Reflect Autocare. I bought my chemicals there. Delivered next day and they are good quality. No affiliation to them, just a happy customer.

Haven't washed the car properly in ages. Last time it was "washed" was when it got a shot of the power washer to show the nct lads I at least tried a little!

So today it got washed, iron x'd, washed, tar x'd, washed and then clayed.

It's now back in the garage and hopefully will get light touch of the DA and a finishing pad and some collinite 845 to finish.

Will put up some snaps when done...

Its metallic grey. Looks well when cleaned up, but very bland when dirty.

Almost hypnotic swirl pattern left by you D/A in the first pic, but that finish is unreal. Are you doing the whole car, or in stages, like a panel a weekend type thing

I know how to solve Cape Towns water shortage. I'll just go over and wash and polish the car, every time I do there is a deluge the next day, and living in a rural setting the car is filthy after one commute. This climate does not suit my OCD.
