They were 6 points down 1-13 to 0-10 midway through the second half at one stage. However they never gave up and were unlucky not to win it in normal time with Paul Walsh from the Cork men scoring a massive equalizer to force the game in ET. Wasn't at the match and looking forward to hearing the thoughts of posters about the game. Best of luck though to Kanturk who now play in a All-Ireland semi-final in the new year. As for Kilmaley they can look forward to participating in the Clare senior hurling championship in 2018.

Kanturk missed a sitter of a goal in the first half when they were on top, open goal no-one to beat and it was put wide, if that had gone in I think they would have ran away with it but when they did score the goal in the second half Kilmaley started to dominate and even took the lead. Kilmaley made some very strange substitutions, they had a panel of 30 listed but they seemed to only want to bring on fellas that were listed in the program as starting or bringing fellas back on. Number 12 was having a poor game and was taken off with about 15 minutes to go only to be brought back on at the start of extra time then he went on the frees as well even though number 30 had slotted a 65 at the end of normal time. Number 11 was taken off and put back on as well, then number 5 and 15 were brought back on. I thought the ref had a poor game, he left fouls go on both sides and never took control of the game, Kilmaley had 2 points deemed wide by a linesman, I was in line for the first 1 (that was awarded) and it was a good point but the linesman overruled it. At the very end Kilmaley got a free on the 65, first off a Kanturk player stood on the ball and in front of the player taking it, then a mentor stood right behind him on the pitch shouting at him, if there was ever a clear cut bring the ball forward situation that was it, the whole thing took about a minute as well. In the end the free went wide and that was it.

Sean O'Donoghue played exceptionally well in midfield and Killian Roche's free taking was vital also. Big crowd attended.

He sustained the injury before the Clare hurlers departed to Boston for the Fenway Classic last weekend. It could see him miss the entire 2018 season. Another huge blow for Gerry and Donal and the Clare senior hurling team.

Josephs were also thrown out after they didn't show to play an U21 game at 12pm on the same day that their minors were down to play at 2pm (I think those were the times). Ridiculous scheduling to have a clash like that and they are 100% correct to appeal the decision.

I met a well known lissycasey woman who was at the county board meeting. Meet her a couple of nights after it,maybe the next night. I was commenting on the situation with her and jokingly said that it was her that objected. She replied that she never spoke and it wasn't her club that objected but the fella sitting beside her did. She named him and he was from cooraclare.
Claregaafan18 wrote: » Fair play to Aidan "Horse" Moloney for pulling no punches with his take on the state of Clare club football. Club football is dying in many parts of the county. However it seems the hierarchy of the Clare County Board are only interested in the fortunes of hurling. They will do nothing to promote football unless the clubs stand up to them. Thursday night is really last chance saloon for the future not just for club football but what is also at stake here is Clare football in general. This is an issue that really gets my blood boiling. The counter-argument is that players could get injured if county panel members are allowed to play for their clubs and that if the "Horse" gets his wish that Clare inter-county panelists get full access to their clubs, it will deny Colm Collins and his management team vital time on the training ground in Caherlohan ahead of the championship. I think the situation regarding the Clare minor football team and the management's decision to basically put an ultimatum to players about not playing for their clubs in the 1st round of the club championship in June, 2 weeks before the Munster Minor Football final really touched a nerve among clubs. However I hope a compromise can be solved on availability of club players. But that is one of many issues facing Clare football at the moment. It is up to clubs what they want. If they accept the status quo then Clare football is well and truly goosed. The only people that would be happy with this status quo would be the county board as they can continue their pro-hurling agenda and have no more hassle with the football clubs. This is a huge moment for the future of the big ball in the county. Clare football in 2017 is under-funded, under-resourced with a county board continues to ignore the plight of the club player and don't care about development and promotion of football in the county. But I conclude this by left feeling that clubs have had loads of opportunities to put forward their plight about whats wrong with Clare football and yet 2 things continue to occur. 1. County board don't listen and 2. clubs not playing hard-ball. Kilmurry Ibrickane have made their stand. C'mon clubs join the Quilty men and start the crusade against the county board to ensure that football clubs are being listened to for once and for all. Or else you can well say the obituary for Clare football has just begun.

However the war of words over the future of the Cusack Cup has escalated with KIB manager Aidan Moloney saying stuff like "we will not allow our inter-county panelists access to the county team" in reference to games being called off, lack of access to their club players and the long delay to the conclusion of the competition. He also criticized other clubs for "burying their heads under the sand" for not standing up on behalf of their club players over availability of players to the county squad. That is in contrast to the hurling situation, Moloney said. There will be a very significant structures meeting on next Thursday I believe. This is where the clubs will have their say over the chaotic fixture debacle which has gone on for far too long now. It is also the chance for clubs to stand up to county board incompetence. We probably have some of the worst football administrators in the country. Clubs it is over to you or else the Cusack Cup will turn out like the irrelevant O'Gorman Cup. If Clubs don't stand up then Clare football faces a long abyss. My message is clear. ALL football clubs must attend this meeting. No excuses.
