Thought I'd update the OP with links and stuff for anyone who stumbles across this.

The former Off the Ball hosts have partnered with The Irish Times to do a series of weekly podcasts. They go online each Tuesday and cover a variety of sports, with a number of contributors including Sid Lowe, Richie Sadlier, Gerry Thornley and Shane Horgan.

Yeah he never seems comfortable on tv I remember he was on prime time being interviewed 1 to 1 with Miriam the time FIFA and Blatter were in the news and he gave her very little information and absolutely zero opinion. My memory was that he just smirked through most of it as if he had no idea why he was there. Around that time he was excellent on the pod.

I wonder is it being on camera as such that Ken was uncomfortable with so much as the Soccer A.M.-style high jinks of SC TV.

I liked the TV show.

On TV though things have to be a bit quicker than radio so Ken doesn't have as much time which affected him.

Murph on the other hand was the star of the TV show.

Whenever I saw the TV show I used to just tell myself that they'd hired some fake Ken who wasn't connected with the radio/podcast Ken.

Tv is more scripted and tight schedules for each subject. That doesn't suit kens style

I listened to it there. Thought it was funny enough (not so much miguel obv) generally. Just the general wallowing in the type of football we play, not the despair of it but accepting it for what it is and enjoying that the danes must hate it and us

Yeah, I'm no fan of Miguel, and I can take or leave Fanning, but sure what can you do but laugh at the state of the football RoI play, while grinding out results?

I thought the post match pod was excellent!

Very funny, the two lads were really giddy and Ken was trying to control it and keep serious.

People hate Miguel so it won't be highly rated, but I enjoyed it.

It felt "live".

I particularly enjoyed the swearing and Ken's reaction.

Agreed, much better to have a decent podcaster from another country than some lazy journo who is only vaguely/superficially aware of the team involved.

Agreed – I reckon the lads will be especially sickened at the failure to qualify, they would have had months and months worth of content to explore had Ireland been going to the World Cup. As someone said earlier in the thread their numbers have shot up recently, which is definitely down to the coverage of the playoff.

I didn't enjoy listening to him afterwards unfortunately. Very tough to listen to.

Great idea from that listener and I hope that they do stuff like that again. As you said, it is great to get the insight from the other side.

Because there was huge national interest in the playoffs and they kept advertising additional coverage of the playoffs on the free pods. It's hardly a coincidence

Numbers have been rising since they started the pod, and steadily increasing for the last 3 months. It has as much to do with the return of the football season in general as it does the WC qualifiers, IMO.
