On a related note An Ghaeltacht are a very well-balanced team - lot of very decent footballers throughout the team. However they have a couple of injury doubts for the game against Mallow - Marc O'Se and Tomas "the dancer" O'Se are both carrying knocks, but should be able to start. Cathal O’ Fiannachta is a major doubt and Cian O'Murchu is definitely out.

You could argue that it could be played in March or April of next year but that clashes with the U-21 hurling championship which is also played at that same time. The inter-county minor championships also get underway at that time so these dates are a non-runner. Of course more matches for that 18-21 age bracket are important in order to encourage players to continue playing gaelic games which is why the U-21 championships are there is the first place. However if this results in any championship whether it is minor or U-21 struggling to finish before Christmas then that is clearly not acceptable. Therefore I suggested that the U-21 football championship which always seems to be some kind of fall guy in relation to fixture congestion in Clare GAA therefore not proceeding for the interests of player welfare. Player welfare is something that the Clare CB continue to disregard and Pat Fitz should be held accountable like the rest of the county board over this most important of issues. There is a perception whether the Clare CB like it or not that football does not get the same treatment as hurling does in the top brass of Clare GAA. This debacle is further evidence of that.
Clareman wrote: » I'm not defending Pat Fitz here but what were the county board to do here? The minor footballers were still in the championship until the 7th of August which probably meant that no games could be played before then and then they had to play off the under 21 and minors together while also running off the football championships. Personally I think the biggest disgrace is playing championships in November, how is that going to encourage players?

In both teams case they play each other at 12 today in the U-21 competition and 2 hours later they play in their respective minor football semi-finals. Here is the problem. Many of the players on both the Parish and Eire Og are part of both U-21 and minor panels meaning they have a choice to make. It is also very unfair on supporters, management and of course parents who would be under pressure to decide what is best for their sons. Clare GAA should be ashamed of themselves for a. playing matches in this time of year, b. showing a complete lack of regard of player welfare and c. putting enormous pressure on supporters, parents, players and management who have to make a very tough decision. Clearly this debacle is further proof if needed that the powers that be in Clare GAA don't care about the promotion of football in the county. Personally the sooner we see the back of Pat Fitz and his fellow pro-hurling friends, who have not got the best interests of Clare football at heart the better.

The Quilty man managed the Corofin men's footballers to Clare intermediate football glory back in 2015 and was also part of the Kilmurry Ibrickane backroom team that won Jack Daly in 2016. I don't think that he was involved with KIB again this year although someone can clarify this. I wish him the best of luck. Here's hoping that he can repair some of scars that previous manager Neil Moynihan left behind him including his approach towards the dual player among one of many problems that occurred during Moynihan's tenure.

He was the coach to the Galway minor hurlers to 2 All-Ireland's in 2015 and 2017. He also coached the Ireland U-21 Shinty hurling team to success against Scotland recently. I must say that I don't know too much about the Galway native so anyone with any info on his background and his reputation would be greatly appreciated.

Bryan O'Loughlin (Kilmaley goalie) made two outstanding point blank range saves in the 2nd half. Having said all that once the Clare intermediate champions got to grips with An Rinn's style of play, they never looked like losing. I thought Sean O'Loughlin, Brian Cahill, Eamonn Bracken, Mikey O'Malley and Mikey O'Neill were most impressive for the victors. While in defense once again I was most impressed by Conor Cleary (future Clare senior hurling captain me thinks) and Aidan McGuane. Kanturk awaits Kilmaley in the Munster IHC final. Ryan and Aidan Walsh look the class acts on their side although Aidan is a much better footballer than hurler. Personally other than those two I don't know too much much about the Cork side. While Kilmaley will be pleased with their win they did shoot 8 wides in the 1st half which were very aimless when they had men in a better position. Also at times they over-elaborated when a more direct simplistic approach would have been better served. The final is set to be played in 2 weeks time. Finally a nice touch from Kilmaley GAA having Pieta House as shirt sponsors for today's game. Pieta House is a life saver not just for individuals but for families of loved ones who have gone through very difficult times. Well done Kilmaley GAA and Pieta House for promoting mental health awareness.

BG were the better team in the end for me, they set up well closing down space in the backs and then moving the ball into space with their forwards. Bridge battled well but found getting scores harder. That said they wont make the long drive back without regrets. Had Golden scored that goal chance it could have been a different game, while Seadna was wasted back in the corner, he is usually worth 2/3 points in the half back line. Also the ref was harsh on them in the first half, and actually kept BG in the game early on. But still BG were the better team.
