Trump has given the CIA and the FBI 180 days to justify to him why these further files should be kept classified and if they can't satisfy him he's going to release them.

The Russian angle is interesting. It was often thought that the assassination was a Cuba/Russia backed plan, but the files seem to suggest that this wasn't true. The Soviet Leader seemed to really respect JFK and even wanted to do a joint USSR/USA Space mission. Then LBJ came along, who they didn't trust, and that went to 'eck. They rang out bells to mourn his passing. Cuba also immediately said they had nothing to do with it.

If anyone is interested, there's a great AskReddit thread over on Reddit, in which people discuss the most interesting aspects they've seen.

This post about Dorothy Kilgallen is really curious:

I was always interested in the case of Dorothy Kilgallen, a well known investigative journalist at the time (Had her column in over 200 newspapers). She was the only person who had interviewed Jack Ruby, twice I believe.
She was highly influential, and was friendly with JFK and upper-class New York society (For example she had a friendship and feud with Frank Sinatra). She was a daily panelist on the hit TV show at the time "What's my Line", and was known for her celebrity-attended parties. She was on the show live, hours before her death. Be aware there is tons of hearsay when this is discussed, but it is still fascinating.
She went full force into the JFK investigation, not believing Oswald acted alone, publicly stating that in her column. She allegedly carried a file around with her at all times, and told her close friend she was "going to release the largest story of the century, and blow the entire JFK case sky-high". Eventually she expressed fear for her life to her closest friends, became more paranoid and had bought a gun, which was out of her character. When in New Orleans investigating a contact, she had apparently told her assistant to go back to NYC and tell no one, in a frantic panic.
She was soon to submit her findings, but in 1965 she was found dead after having an affair with a much younger man who came out of nowhere. Her files were missing, and she was found by her hairdresser in a bedroom she never slept in, with clothes she would never wear to bed, reading a book she had finished and disliked, wearing glasses when she didn't need them for reading. Her case was closed as barbiturates and alcohol. NYC actually reopened an investigation into her death in 2016 due to a book published recently, but closed it in September this year with no evidence of foul play.
I looked up her name out of curiosity, and there appears to be an entire file named "DOROTHY KILGALLEN", by Richard Nixon, it appears to still be classified for reasons of national security...
In another declassified document it just reads at the end "She has no idea as to how DOROTHY KILGALLEN came into possession of a copy of the deposition"

Some Soviet Union Leaders felt it was a Ultra right coup and the KGB had found their own evidence Lyndon Johnson was involved. I guess the next question is where can we find this evidence today?

The KGB's chief officer in New York City, Boris Ivanov, described Kennedy's death as a "problem" for his agency. Ivanov also told his agents that he believed that a conspiracy had been involved in Kennedy's assassination,

Oswald was pro Castro. Big league. The name he bought the guns under - Alek Hidell - was based on "Fidel". He was only "hanging out" with the exile group to infiltrate them and report back to the Fair Play for Cuba guys to try impress them. When the exiles saw him handing out pro Castro literature on the streets they realised what he was at, there was a fight and they all got arrested.

The Fair Play for Cuba Committee didn't want his help. He bragged about having lots of members in his chapter in New Orleans but he was the only member. He was delusional.

Heres a link to the letter he wrote to them and the letter they wrote back advising against opening an office in New Orleans.

Nothing was going his way. He couldn't get back to Russia or into Cuba, he had an awful job, no money, his wife had left him and his politics weren't gaining any notice.

So they were warned about Oswald before the attack. But the Soviet Union saw him as being neurotic and feared there was a conspiracy. The Dallas police were warned about the threat to Oswald's life but decided not to act.

I was really hoping for an answer to my first question.
Admittedly I love a good conspiracy but just wondered what would happen if the conspiracy was true.
Would anything actually change?

Nixon thought the CIA had assassinated President Diem in Vietnam, and LBJ used to think JFK was assassinated in retaliation for it.

Interesting reading for sure and some other stuff about the Minute Men. It reads like research for a spy novel.

Not all got released and the secrecy keeps going. Six months till the blackened pages get released if at all, no conspiracy? It take days for people to find useful information. Each file has thousands of documents.

Actually this would be an ideal place to hang out and get prepared to carry out a murder. Cuban exiles groups would be interested in helping Oswald kill Kennedy, they felt the same way! Remember Kennedy pulled support for the Bay of Pigs operation and lot of Cuban exiles died during this operation.

My feeling about Oswald is he was a playing a double game, a double agent maybe working for a government agency? Or he was just a lunatic, who hung around with dangerous Cubans, they together planned it, and they got away and Oswald got caught. Or Oswald planned it all by himself and he was just a madman?
