It was posted in the Gaming News thread. People had a lot of pet peeves with it but I think its a net loss. There's a lot to be said for a large forum that covers a lot of topics but at the same time isn't split up to hell and back.

Just on the 8 bit show at the weekend, did i miss a trick? we arrived and the turnout was fairly low. Havent been to many gaming events lately (was one of the many shafted by the one in the convention centre earlier in the year and insomnia in Kerry was a waste of time) but cant understand why the turnout was so low at this one.

Are lads and ladies put off because of what happened at that show or was it just down to the weather or something else?

That's really weird! The fact that it's located in Malaysia so it has to be a repro surely? Why would there be a cache of EU carts over there?

Then again, why would someone in Malaysia repro a PAL cart and not a US NTSC one?

It could be either or both tbf.
There was a con in Limerick also had low turn out too. There's J Con coming up in November people might be waiting for that.
Maybe it might have gotten more closer to mid term?

Yeah the turnout was pretty bad on the Sunday. Saturday had pretty crap weather so I put it down to that.

No idea really. Overall I thought it was pretty well organized and had some good bits there. Plus if you won a tournament for a game you won the console. Pretty decent prize for a small event.

I sold enough stuff to cover my costs and I got all my regular online orders packed up so I'm not pissed off or anything.

Guy in charge was really nice and accommodating to everything all weekend. Said to hopefully run one again next year again

I'd say a few big name guests or draws are the key to these things but its a real chicken and egg situation, a small con can't afford to bring in big names

My boardgame con went pretty well back in August.

It was never going to make big money. But it earned enough to cover all the costs with a little left over to invest in the next one.

I'm hoping this weekends con will go well, I've no investment aside from a few demo consoles.
I can imagine people burned by the previous major convention might be hesitant to invest time and money in another one.
I did take a day off for setting up purposes though, not sure if I'm going to be expected to hang around and mind my stuff.
I'll have to speak to them about that.

Also, Eimear Noone is doing a three part concert/seminar/lecture at the event, which is going to be very cool on the 28th of October, Saturday.

It clashes with Gaelcon as well.

Id say promotion is the biggest issue for every small con.

Targeting through social media is expensive and I found personally is a waste of time and money. Nothing beats a good publicity stunt or just some really good content being uploaded consistently for a good build up towards something.

But then again, likes are cheap, lot easier for someone to double tap their phone over making the effort to going to an event

I saw ads on TV, got tagged a few times but didn't really take any notice of it. It was a bit ... flashy, if that makes sense? I thought it might more for young wans since I didn't know the Youtubers

My FB feed is getting lots of PlayersXpo ads, as is my internet, but that's because of my contact with them.
I'm hoping it'll be popular, we shall see if it can overcome the bad mojo from the unconnected previous event and the time limits on attendance.

I remember the year I got my commodore 64 for Xmas. I had wanted one since the year before after visiting the next door neighbours that Xmas to see them playing on a C64. It was a whole year but I finally got one.

Went next door that day all excited to tell the girls what I had got and to try some of their games.

Found them playing fzero on an import US snes their dad had got them while working in the US.
