'Scuse me if I'm breaking any rules of Weather here with another thread, but didn't want to derail the main thread with too much chatter.

Guessing a lot of people (particularly us mostly-lurkers) might be in the same boat as me - not really sure what this all means on the ground in terms of preparation - and even if it's not too awful, I for one would prefer to be over-prepared rather than under-prepared! (At the moment, I don't feel that prepared at all!)

I'm living in a pretty exposed place for this particular set of indicators (on a narrow, south-west jutting peninsula off the Galway coast) and thus somewhat nervous about it. We're moving the bedroom to the sitting room as I've always been a bit dubious about the tall trees on that side of the house, but apart from that, sheltering the car (somehow) and ensuring there's as little potential debris as possible, I'm a bit at a loss. Water, candles might be an idea to get in.

Any more experienced people have ideas? Or what are others in the firing line doing?

Over 300 people called in today to work in a film Studio in Ashford, Wicklow. Winds drastically picking up. A risk assessment sent around warning us not to leave the building. Why bring us in to work in the first place !!

He'll be fine, he has plenty of time to get home.

I'm well south of there and while it's pretty gusty, it's not at unsafe levels yet by any means.

One of the lads where I work made the call not to come in, around 700am. Management have since been in touch with everyone to tell us all to come in as normal. What on earth do you do in that situation?

yeah I've noticed a definite winding up of the wind here in the last 30 minutes (Portmarnock) - wind is whistling now

After this is over we should compile a list of every company that made their staff go to work, or told them to go home only after they arrived for work - because these are companies I wouldn't want to work for.

Working in cork city and opted not to go in today. Just spoke to a colleague who confirmed out of our team of 25, only myself and 3 others didn't come in. The whole rest of the team is there.
I can't believe it. Definitely in for a bollocking tomorrow now. We must be the only place in Cork open.

Still calm enough in north Wicklow with periodic gusts.

One thing I thought of when I woke up...theres something like 80 cranes on the Dublin skyline. How do they ensure the safety of cranes at times like this? Can they weight them down or something? Probably a stupid question but was curious and thought someone here might know?
