'Scuse me if I'm breaking any rules of Weather here with another thread, but didn't want to derail the main thread with too much chatter.

Guessing a lot of people (particularly us mostly-lurkers) might be in the same boat as me - not really sure what this all means on the ground in terms of preparation - and even if it's not too awful, I for one would prefer to be over-prepared rather than under-prepared! (At the moment, I don't feel that prepared at all!)

I'm living in a pretty exposed place for this particular set of indicators (on a narrow, south-west jutting peninsula off the Galway coast) and thus somewhat nervous about it. We're moving the bedroom to the sitting room as I've always been a bit dubious about the tall trees on that side of the house, but apart from that, sheltering the car (somehow) and ensuring there's as little potential debris as possible, I'm a bit at a loss. Water, candles might be an idea to get in.

Any more experienced people have ideas? Or what are others in the firing line doing?

I'm off tomorrow anyway, but I just logged in to see a BCP e-mail in work saying "All staff should exercise care when travelling to/from work on Monday and Tuesday", which is a very obvious 'we expect you to attend' to me. It also goes as far as to point out Dublin won't be as seriously impacted as the rest of the country - a further nudge that anyone in the Dublin office definitely should be in.

I work in Government buildings and it's business as usual tomorrow as far as I know. A bit weird considering other Depts on Kildare st are closed, and half the staff drive from their constituencies in the country to work in their office at our place.
I'll probably just cycle in as usual, if it's really bad at 5pm when I'm leaving I'll take the dart home.

I'm struggling to understand the attitude of some posters on here. It's like some sort of superiority complex that they understand how serious this will be. I mean, schools are closed, many businesses are closed, there has been extensive coverage on the news all day, the emergency task force met early today, the army are on standby, the ESB are prepared, many hospitals have cancelled all elective procedures.... Apart from getting in some food and a few candles and moving loose objects from the garden there's essentially nothing we can do only hope for the best. I think the response and preparation has been fine.

It was veering towards France at one point today, so it is possible it veers east again.

We were told in work today we would be notified tomorrow morning if we get to stay home. 3 years ago we had a storm in Kilkenny and there were trees down for weeks after. Also, afraid for the dogs here, one of them had such false bravado! I do hope it's not as bad as they predict. My mum is heading into an 11 hour flight just about now, from San Fran, I'm hoping she gets home safe.

Text just in from work ....not to take risks so work from home if needs be.

I think the morning will be OK. ...it's the trip home I'd be worried aboit. ....travel on a bus from Dublin to dundalk and wind can catch bus at much less than what's forecast. Don't fancy it much, or being stranded in dublin
