The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

I've bought a few cars from the UK and they really won't haggle very much in most cases. I was looking at Golf R prices recently there as there are loads back from 3 year finance deals but as you said most are very basic with the smaller 18" Cadiz wheels.
Unless you can go over and spend a few days buying a car you will also have to trust the dealer about the car, can be risky but that's how you save money.
If you are really concerned about it buy a car here and pay the extra money for peace of mind.

Ya loads of UK cars are “lease spec”. Anything decent commands a fair premium.

Ive been in contact with Mark from safe and sound in the uk. They fit the autowatch ghost immobiliser.

Due to pick up the Highline on Wednesday but insurance is proving difficult, nowhere seems to recognize the 1.0 in Irish spec but all the UK spec is there such as S, SE, SE Nav, GT etc. Got the dealer to forward on the details to Liberty but I'm concerned about the cost. Looking at the older 1.2 110 Highline models, they vary from €2,600 to €2,900 and there's no difference on my end. I know there's lots of variation in spec but these ones seem to be the same!

The SE Nav 1.0 is €2,600, so I'm hoping as that's the exact same engine it won't be the more expensive option!

25, got full license earlier this year. Original quote was €1,400 but they thought I had 1 year named NCB. Imagine my surprise when I found out a week before collecting the car it's actually double that. Have to bite the bullet eventually!

Yeah but it’s 4 years old... it does look otherwise mint tbf, allowing for the fact that the pics are a bit low res. Even the wheels and those wheels would be destroyed with kerbing and corrosion if it wasn’t looked after.

If I were interested in it, I’d first ask for some high res recent photos of the car.

They’re decent enough. Especially on newer cars. Been with them a year now underwritten with AIG and just about to take out another policy as they are doing full bonus protection on my 640d for €1010. AIB quoted 2.5k!!! I’m also 35 with max everything and no points.

Actually tried an online quote with Post and said couldn't be done, I'll try calling them. Do they insure new drivers? Called FBD and the automated voice said you need 1 year experience so I explained to the nice woman I just found that out and sorry to waste her time

Not quite a GTI or an R but I thought it would get some love here

Have to say I'm genuinely surprised by how good it sounds. Some reviews suggested it gets a bit whiney with the foot down and that a 3 cylinder is noisey but I think it sounds great :O

They threw on the paint protection and the bag full of Auto Glym products with a sponge and towels that will promptly be replaced with a quality mitt and drying towels and also had mud flaps and a boot liner thrown in. Even had a litre of Castrol oil in the boot in its own little pouch

Lovely interior. The digital dash is awesome. Now I just have to wait 3 years for something with a bit more poke :P

I was also surprised last night to see it has those side lights that turn on when you steer :O
