Dammit, I wanted to be the one who started the thread :pac: Hope it's a good series, the last two have been poor imo. They really need to cut the number of contestants back to 16 or even smaller. Would also like to see less people who're just they're for the fame, but probably difficult to weed them all out.

Airing in the autumn for the fourth year running. I wonder if the BBC have considered making this permanent?

Lest we forget, the show used to be a spring fixture - eight of the first nine series aired from either February to May, March to June or May to July. The exception was the 2010 series, which was the first to air from October to December due to that year's General Election and Lord Sugar's government ties.

The last three series, like the 2010 one, have aired in the autumn due to at least one major event taking place in the spring or summer. In 2014 it was the World Cup in Brazil and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow; in 2015 it was another General Election; and last year it was the Brexit vote, Euro 2016 and the Rio Olympics.

This year, of course, there has been yet another General Election. And next year, there'll be the World Cup in Russia.

So I wonder if the Beeb have considered making The Apprentice a full-time autumn fixture? If it moved back to spring now, it would be a pretty big change for many loyal viewers...

What is almost certain, however, is that it won't be going away for a while yet. Lord Sugar may now be 70 (and Claude isn't much younger), and there may be more candidates who are just there for the fame - but the show still averages around seven million viewers each series, even beating EastEnders now and again.

I assume Rhod Gilbert will be hosting You're Fired! again? He had a bit of a health scare earlier this year, but no word that he's leaving:

Nine men and nine women. All aged between 23 and 39. All conventionally good-looking. One black candidate; several others of Asian descent. Most of them living in the London and Manchester metro areas.

That's standard these days. What *isn't* standard, however, is *all* of the candidates living in England - there's usually one from Wales, one from Scotland and one from Northern Ireland. Hmm...

Meanwhile, despite now being a septuagenarian, Lord Sugar says that he's more than happy to continue doing the show, until he drops or until the Beeb decides to call it a day:

I suppose they can milk more ratings out of a longer series

Absoballylutely! From a performance point if view, he should have gone. So obviously was kept for entertainment purposes.

It was nice for once to see a contestant argue “well” if that makes sense. I’m referring to the lad who was first chosen to be brought back into the boardroom with Charles. His being singled out was obvious bullshit and he articulately fought his corner.

I found the lads’ performance so bizarre. Very little selling shown at all. When Charlie said “Let’s stay here in the kitchen for lunch”, OH and I were like “WTF?”. This was one of those rare tasks where it was very obvious which team won.

I am clearly behind the fashion trend. My glasses are partially rimless and subtle looking. All the glasses I saw tonight were oversized and odd looking. And all ridiculous looking.

Maybe Im getting old.

Michaela looks like she’s in it for the long run, she was very prominent in the edit. Similarly Charles (the guy who just survived) – as pointed out above he’ll probably be the “villain” of the series.

Of course with this format you can never pick an actual potential winner as of course it’ll be down to the Business Plan

On another note, I only discovered last night Joe Valente who won two series ago is no longer Business partners with Lord Sugar - that's why he wasn't in the boardroom at the start.

Typical first episode. I thought they fired the right person. Team Leader was clueless from the outset.

You can always tell which people are just not liked by everyone else though. Charles and the older woman with glasses will rub people the wrong way.

I do miss trying to pick a winner from the pack at the start, as said already its all down to the business plan these days.

I need new glasses and I was looking at them all thinking, "Are these what I'm going to have to choose from in my opticians?!" Not sure I'd get away with any of those really, lol, way over the top.

When they were all in the boardroom at the end there was one woman (standing in the middle in the back) who I literally hadn't noticed all through the episode, same on the men's side, guy on farm far right, I hadn't clapped eyes in either. Always the way when there are so many of them vying for camera time.

I thought the right person was fired, he was useless. What about pricing? Oh domn't worry about that, we'll do it later. Eh, it's one of the most basic and important parts of the task when the bottom line is profit. What a donkey.

My favourite bit from last nights show was when Siobhan was talking about who should sell the burgers for the ladies team and Karen quizing her. You could feel the women in the room and the viewing audience all thinking "you silly woman, stop talking you are digging a bigger hole for yourself." TV gold.

That must have been one of the worst performances of all time. A task selling food and they get to their stall after lunch.

I also think Siobhan/Sinead (I laughed at that) will be comedy gold until she's kicked out about week 5 or so

I think in a normal scenario Karren may have just raised it in the boardroom after, but I’ve no doubt Karren has been instructed to take on this cold persona for the cameras. The first series or two she wasn’t nearly as bad

If you see her interviewed on casual chat-shows she actually comes across as very pleasant and endearing

Big glasses with chunkier frames are certainly back in style these days and have been for quite awhile (although some of these contestants have gone a bit off the deep end in how big they've gone), but what really stood out for me is that we rarely actually see that many people (especially within the one show) with glasses on television anyway, and perhaps that made it stand out a bit more when this lot walked into the room.

We cannot access BBC iplayer in Ireland.

BBC doesn't allow replay facility for its big shows like this.

Is it repeated at any time before next Wed?

A couple of seasons back I found a website where I could watch episodes I'd missed, not sure if that's still possible...
