I forgot to ask this at the time but the day Hook was taken off the air there was a female presenter on and she said something like "And yes I am a woman" and she sounded all angry saying it, did anyone catch that or know what it was about?

That was Friday's show and it was Dr. Ciara Kelly, she was standing in for George.

I think the 'I'm a woman' outburst may have been influenced by somethings that were said just before noon on the Friday Gathering on Sean O'Rourke's programme. A number of contributors to the 'Friday Gathering' were very critical of Newstalk over their lack of gender balance etc. There was also Fintan O'Toole's article which was quite negative of the station for the same reason.

It's the heard mentality, play a few college gigs and u get the students eating out of your hand. All you got to do is make group of people feel good about themselves and there like putty in your hand.
They came out with that line "men need feminism" or something to that effect. They threw out that lline without actually explaining what exactly they meant.
Listening to them u would swear that every man in Ireland is ****ed up. Whereas in reality the vast majority have the upmost respect for women. Any place I've ever worked there's been a good mix of sexes, and we all got along perfectly fine. Women and Men for the most part are doing perfectly well.
I get worried sometimes when I here celebs talking about suicide, l think sometimes they make the problem worse.

It was Hook's protégé, Ciara Kelly. :rolleyes: I think she assumed all the listeners might have known she was referring to Fintan O'Toole's article in which he said there were no female presenters on Newstalk.

eamonn dunphy said the same when he had his falling out, about how bad the younger staff were being paid, and not getting reimbursed when they bought the papers in the morning to do their research.

Now that was a cringe inducing double act! A irritating, unfunny "comedian" and Hook giggling like a school boy over each of her utterances.
I felt it was a very weird segment whenever she was on. Not quite Jimmy Saville weird, but weird enough.
I was grateful recently as she seemed to have been dropped as a regular guest.

The understanding at the time was the lads called O'Brien's bluff and his people told them to sod off and instead of seeing out their notice told them to leave . I think "gardening leave" was the joke term (in light of some Premiership manager getting similar treatment)

Wow 4 years? Here, how come those lads were never snapped up by RTE sport? Or would the culture at RTE as expressed by the tweets explain that?

Actually, that is a question a lot of the nation wants to know. Would sound right to be the first or second question. It was well known in advance that the Arab Spring was moving in on Egypt and that the democratically elected MB were not very popular by day 10 of their glorious reign.

It was incredibly bad timing. RTE's finances were in a mess at the time. It has been rationalising ever since and is still posting massive deficits. I also suspect there was an element of RTE's sports department guarding it's own patch. The shows that Second Captain's have done in RTE all came under the entertainment department, not the sports department. That's despite the fact OTB trounced anything RTE's sports department but up against them on radio ...RTE Radio 1's drivetime sport...2fm's Game on.

The reason given for choosing the Right Hook over OTB at the time was the demographics of their audiences. For Newstalk to increase it's ad revenue it needed to increase the number of female listeners and Hook had more of them than OTB. A bit ironic given what Newstalk is being called these days.

Yeah I forgot about her. George basically gave her a public profile out of nothing. But I checked her Twitter and she said nothing about it. And what about the Here Come The Girls crowd? Seems like all the "dames" that George helped on the show have deserted him in his hour of need. If I were him, I would be very disappointed that they have all taken the easy option and said nothing. And I dont believe it's because any of them don't think that George is a decent man, it's because they are lacking in the courage to possibly make themselves unpopular by going against the grain. Cowards the lot of them.

And I wouldn't include Ciara Kelly in that. She's not a coward. She's a conniving backstabber.

Can you imagine if one of Hook's supporters made a video with the lyrics "This love we have, there's no respect, but she's a big fat ****er so what does she expect"? It would be headline on the Journal, simply to discredit them because they were Hook supporters. But because these idiots proclaim themselves as feminists, they get a free pass.

As I said before, there is different treatment of people in the news based on whether they agree with the liberal agenda or whether they are more conservative. Fake/Biased News.
