Anyone searching for a cheap car will know this if they've done their homework so its gonna be a hard one to shift since it'll be 14 in 4 months. I'm currently half-looking for a bangernomic replacement for the second car in the household and I've set my filter to nothing older than 2005 for the insurance reason. At least then we might get a little over a year out of it. Crying shame as I've seen some smashing 01/02 plate cars that I'd jump at if it weren't for the insurance headache.

Absolutely mad to tell people we will only insure cars 2002/2003 up this year. Next year 2003/2004. Forcing people to either take a chance without it or upgrade their car simply cause they can't get insurance. In a country where looking for a house has gone to the dogs and if you find one get ready to pay over the odds or live in Achill and commute to Dublin. Shower of ****es

However, it does mean you're not not able to shop around for insurance as much, plus your car becomes much much harder to sell as any buyer will have difficulty insuring the vehicle.

FWIW, I'm on an employer/company policy now (wrapping Allianz) who seem happy with any age car... but not much help to anyone else. Previously I also found Axa to be not very bothered by vehicle age (and I insured a 00D car with them for first time in 2015, so there and thereabouts)

JohnBoy26 wrote: » No the reason why is because they are about the only 2 that will give qoutes for older cars. You have f€ck all room to shop around and I know with liberty they will only offer third party fire & theft on older cars. One of the first questions some insurance companies are asking now is "is the car under 15 years old?" I also had an older car insured and had very limited room for shopping around and I haven't been 21 for a long time either and have been driving for 10+ years but it's not your age that matters it's the age of the car that is the problem. Mine was around €300 more expensive on the older car compared to a newer model and that is without shopping around.
