this Newstalk Drive is absolute garbage,can someone please tell Sarah McInerney to stop laughing at her jokes they are simply not funny.

Moncreiff is the only show i will be listening to.. Yes i've moved the dial alright

I thought that Chris and Ivan were a perfect partnership. I disagree with most of Ivan's politics, but I really like his radio personality. I don't know why NT didn't pair them up again; but perhaps neither one of them wanted to team-up again. I basically have stopped listening to Drive until Ivan comes back.

Will be interesting to see how it goes with Yates on his own. He can be blustering. But then again RTE's Saint Mary does her Drivetime gig alone too.

Anyway, whether you like it or not I am going to complain about the app and playback on NT. It is not user friendly. I have tweeted them, but nothing yet.

As much as RTE drives me to drink, their listen back function is a dream.

I broadly agree with this, but I think Chris is more needed as a presenter. They are pretty stuck for experienced frontpeople with some sort of name recognition as it is, and it's asking a lot of Ivan, who has known health issues and fairly big gaps in his field of knowledge, to present a three-hour daily show on his own. Ivan does fine on Sundays in a 2hr show where he can ramble on about sports for at least 30mins of it.
3hrs every day on all manner of current affairs is a different story.

at least now he doesn't have much of an excuse for regularly missing the production meetings before the show, so might be a bit more informed about what's on the agenda.

They've wrecked the station over the last couple of years, way too much chopping and changing presenters. You never know who you're going to get when you switch on. Couldn't be arsed with irish radio anymore. I find some of the English stations are much easier on the ear, not as much whining....

I haven't read back through the thread so excuse me if I'm bringing something up again, but the phone lines are absolutely atrocious whenever someone calls in to this show. All bassy and muffled sound. The presenters are fine and clear.

Had to stop listening to Drivetime because Sarah Mc is an insufferable fool. Has she never heard of impartial journalism? Imagine being married to that mouthy yoke, Christ. Had to stop listening in the mornings because Paul Williams. No need to explain that one. Had to stop listening to off the ball because of how seriously the main presenter takes the sporting issues they're discussing, like it's the nuclear missile crisis. They should take a look at the Guardian football podcast and James Richardson on how to have a light hearted approach to sport. It is after all only sport. So I've finally turned into my parents and it's RTE1 in the mornings and evenings now till I die probably.

I remember when Ivan finished up on the breakfast show he bluntly and frankly said "you must be joking, never again" when someone texted in saying maybe himself and Chris might work together again in the future.

I remember a few months I switched the station from Cooper because he was talking GAA so had a listen to Drive instead. They were talking about water charges and they got a text in from a listener saying he paid all his bills and agreed with the charges but had a lot of reservations because he thought IW was going to be another inefficient quango and he was concerned about it being semi-state rather than fully state owned.

Of course in jumps Sarah with her "I'm right 100% of the time attitude" to scorn the texter. The first sentence out of her mouth was "I'm sorry but I just don't agree with that"

Talk about being confused, agree with what? a listener having a different opinion than her? IW turning into a quango?
As if that wasn't bad enough she had to kick the ludicrousness up a gear by berating the texter for not "showing more support to your TD to stand up for IW" and that his semi state quango concerns could be addressed with "a referendum vote when and if it's needed."

That was enough of Drive for me and I decided that listening to GAA talk was far more appealing than listening to her. Clearly judging by Newstalk's decision to get rid of her I'm not the only one.

I think it's funny that when the male presenters are fired then it's considered that they weren't doing a good job, but when the female presenters are fired then it sexist. The presenters were equally bad and got equal treatment. You can't claim that you want equality, and then complain when it is dished out in equal measures.

Something really needs to be done to get Jonathan Healy removed from Newstalk permanently, as a priority. He's the sort of guy that everybody would avoid in the pub, yet Newstalk use him as some sort of utility presenter, filling in on all of their shows.

I wonder when Paul Williams was described as fine looking but headwrecking when his radio credentials were assessed. It's hilarious isn't it. The most vociferous posts are from those complaining about her opinion, saying that she shouldn't actually have an opinion.

They want either confirmation of their own opinions, or else want no opinion at all. Anything that they don't agree with are met with cries of "OMG, I thought they were supposed to be balanced, I can't handle ideas thata make me uncomfortable. I know what will make me feel better, make a childish comment about her sex, that'll put that damn women back in her place".

I don't agree only that Paul Williams is a Pr!ck and equally insufferable.

Sarah has two new shows that were announced yesterday and being honest I hope that they do well for her, I'd imagine she will be a little more informed now as these shows will be covering the events of the previous days, she won't have to think on her feet as much and thus won't have to loose control as much. She will have lots of time to prepare and will be stringently edited.
There's little wrong with acknowledging that Sarah is a stunning looking woman or that she has a lovely voice. Wasn't it women that made unknown US celebrities famous watching absolutely stupid ridiculous weekly shows because then little known people like George Clooney and co was the star, then call men sexist?

Totally agree.. its the same constant whiners day after day vainly trying to mask mean spirited and personal jibes as humour....although Id say that in person they are probably about as edgy as the characters from Last of the Summer Wine

No basically she is ignorant and has. I manners when interviewing guests, you either agree with her or she basically didn't want to know I remember recently interviewing a guy from someone Catholic organisation about school patronage and she was extremely rude to him. He did not raise his voice and tried to reason with her and she just shouted him down.
Also Newstalk are no idiots they knew by the ratings it wasn't working. Also that idiot McKean knew the writing was on the wall and jumped ship back to Moncrieff, which is a pity as he should be taken off the air permanently.
