Just feckin weird, every aspect of their relationship. Impossible to read his love poems the same way when you know he had a lifelong obsession with Maud, but also proposed to her daughter. Who was widely rumoured (falsely) to be his illegitimate child.

(Iseult was actually conceived in an attempt to reincarnate Gonne's son, who died of meningitis. Gonne had sex with the boy's father, in his mausoleum, in the belief that his spirit would inhabit the new baby).

More than a little bit strange.

It is. And it says on Wikipedia that Iseult was educated in a convent in France and when she came back to Ireland she was referred to as Maud's niece or cousin, not her daughter. The poor girl had a very strange life. The more I read about her, the sadder it seems.

I think mutual pact is a better way of putting it than hook up or relationship, especially where there's money or mutual interests involved, it's odd how the higher echelons of SoCoDu don't trawl Coppers or some nightclub in Blanch looking for their life partners.
