Official Conor McGregor thread (part 3) *Updated Warning in 1st Post Re:Boxing match
The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 4.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.

Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.

Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

Lads consider this the one and only warning - big fight with a lot of hype around it. It brings new fans to the forum as well as the regulars so try and get along. Any trolling or nonsense and people will find themselves on a break from the forum and that applies to everyone.

Soccer formations when the game first started were 3 Defenders, 7 attackers. That evolved to the standard 4-4-2 for decades then someone came along with 3-5-2 which was successful for a while. Dick Fosbury and the Fosbury flop is a great example.

There is a lot more scope to the boxing rule set than what you see in your every day boxing match. Just because that works now does not mean it's the only way to approach a fight and that seems to be what McGregor and his team are planning.

Could end quicker if floyd wants it over with quick but i reckon he will take his time and try embaress mcgregor. Mcgregor is a tough guy so reckon he toughs it out until his corner throws in the towel

Why aren't you open to the possibility? I don't know if he will or not, chances are he won't. But this seems to be the angle he is approaching it from.

Who was the first person in boxing to decide to hold a high guard? Boxing purists are such high level specialists on an extremely specific understanding of boxing rules that they can not see beyond it and are not open to alternative ways of approaching the fight.

Again, why are you not open to the possibility? Many single individuals have changed the approach to many sports.

When it gets to round 7 and Conor hasn't won one of them yeah. Think it'll be stopped well before that though. He'll just get hit too often.

Wonder I watched some Robin Black there he makes some good general points about innovators coming along and changing things but he over analyzes everything hes comparing air bnb to McGregor going in there and boxing its far fetched bluffing to fill minutes, I think he just loves the sound of his own voice tbh.

Does anyone think the bigger distance between boxers is going to effect Floyd in any way? Will he find it hard to read/time McGregors approach or will his own offense suffer trying to close the distance and negate the reach advantage.

I think McGregor is going to close distance quicker than anyone Floyd has fought before. Its very possible McGregor just ends up running onto the end of Floyd's fist 9 times out of 10.

I agree with the second sentence.

I don't think Conor's feet are faster than many that Floyd has fought as regards boxing feet and positioning and forward/forward-lateral movement.

Conor is going to play this like:

Comes out and tries to KO Floyd by getting close enough to wing shots. Realises he cannot, and realise he is getting picked apart. He will then resort to movement in all directions. Trying to be as unpredictable as possible. Throwing less and less as the beating continues. As gets more and more tired and helpless as regards offense, he will succumb to Floyd's shots or be pulled out mid rds by his corner....

It's either that or a 12 rds dance...

They don't. It's advisable to give yourself a solid base and build power up through your legs but it's not the rule.

There's many many examples of boxers landing punches on opponents where one or both feet are off the ground.

Frazier knocking down Ali in the fight of the century is one of the more famous ones.

Well in Amatuer boxing I told otherwise, I know it has happened funny enough Chavez did something crazy like it against Roger Mayweather but I'd be interested to know if a ref will call it as a foul as im 99% sure it is technically.

Yeah that's the type of stuff I see Conor doing.

It's not that I expect it to be offensively brilliant but it will disrupt the rhythm and timing of Floyd. He can't have ever fought anyone who's constantly jumping into the air with switch steps and fainting switch kicks etc.

Take the superman punch for example. It's perfectly legal in boxing for both feet to leave the canvas and to punch someone. The reason boxers don't do it is because all the opponent needs to do is pivot to the side and land a clean counter.

But... that assumes you're trying to land the superman punch. What if you throw it, not with the intention of it landing but to get a certain reaction? Then the next time you fake it and land a shot.

Visually this fight is going to look like a joke to boxing purists. Conor is going to be doing things in there that look flat-out-ridiculous and the only way they even begin to stop looking ridiculous is when he lands a clean punch on Floyd.
