Maybe because those units are indestructible, are easier to fit to one of those golfs and they are usually simple to repair if something goes wrong.

Id be more annoyed at the colour tbh, why go to all that trouble of stripping out, sanding, cleaning, undersealing and priming the shell only to top coat it with Kawasaki green.

The engine bay looks fairly moldy too. At least he took vertical photos to save us seeing any of the car in detail

Custom plate too, might add a few quid. They can be quite expensive to buy in the UK.

You'd get a 535D landed with VRT paid for less than that - and likely better specced. Its pretty saucy money for a 530D which doesn't appear to have a whole lot of options fitted (no sports box, sunroof, HUD etc.). If it was originally Irish then maybe there'd be some justification for it.
