The Mega Mk7 Golf GTI/GTD/R thread

Any body with either of these able to advise on what the real world economy is of these?
There is not much between them in purchase price.
The gtd 625 euro more.
I do 25000km a year and really would prefer the gti but my head tells me the gtd is what I should be looking at.
I've only driven the gti and found it very entertaining.
Dealer says resale is the same for both of them. There is only 90 euro difference in road tax and insurance the same so fuel costs are the main financial difference.

It's apparantly common. I've heard of this and similar incidents happening but you always think/hope it won't happen on your doorstep.

Yep the cnuts left screw driver marks on the black housings. Fortunately those parts are only €9 a pop. The caps however are €142 each! (Retail). Fortunately the local dealers were really good to me in terms of tea and sympathy and the cost to my wallet when I called in this morning with my very sad face.

It's worrying me tbh that it happened outside my home when I and my wife and child were in bed asleep. I'm giving serious thought to downgrading.

I am absolutely f***king jinxed lads. Woke up this morning to see this on my driveway. There are no words to describe the scum that come onto someone's driveway in the middle of the night and do sh1t like this.

If you see R mirror caps on dungdeal, adverts, eBay, they're probably mine! Cnuts.

That's exactly what happens, the clutch doesn't engage on the drive to the rear so you are basically driving a fwd car.

Spinning front wheels at junctions , i never ever have even had a squeak when pulling out at junctions in the last two years !

No warning lights but the traction control light flickers and it cuts in.

i know this sounds correct but previously i have never ever seen the traction control light flicker.

Haldex pump is probably gone. It has happened a few cars, you shouldn't have any problem getting it fixed.

Yeah you have 3 years. What's the symptom? Warning lights / error code?

Cheers lads. I will try get it done somewhere else. The squeaking seems to be related to the brakes too i think. Its completely related to movement at slow speeds then goes once speed up.

I know that other choices in Cork are limited without travelling but it might be worth trying to see if Deasys do warranty work as they have VW service.

Yeah. Suspension top mounts. I had them done in the GTI. It cured the problem in that car. Front suspension creaks and groans are a common enough MK7 problem. Is it particularly noticeable at slow speeds, e.g. when parking?

Probably top mounts, they seem to be weak on some cars. Ask them to replace them.

I'd expect 2.5k, but if you push a bit you might get a bit closer to 3k. Or try asking them to "throw" something in like metallic or a wheel upgrade...

19's will be fine but it does depend on what you are used to. I don't think there's a significant difference in comfort from 18-19 tbh. Personally I think that the new standard 18's are so ugly that the 19's upgrade would be the first box I'd tick. You could consider the adaptive dampers (DCC) if going for 19's.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I am very tempted to order a new GTI - love the look and feel of the new Mk7.5 - I literally can't get my mind off it

I spoke to a dealer after a test drive and was quoted around €42-43k for one with the options I want (DSG, tech pack & keyless entry + alarm). What discount should I be looking for minimum off that price?

Also I like the look of the standard Milton Keynes alloys but was considering an upgrade to the 19" Brescias, I think they look savage. Would the 19s affect the ride quality at all? I'd leave it tbh if it makes the ride harder.

I don't really get the R estate. It's a bit ungainly looking and a bit of an odd combo. I'd start looking up to some nice premium 6 cyl estate if I wanted more space despite a big jump in cash.

Been through that period in my life of car seats, buggies etc.
A used high spec ford s max would win over a Citroen for me. Actually a genuinely nice car to drive, at least the previous model was.
