Clareman wrote: » How is it unfair? Kelly was captain last year, hurler of the year 4 years ago and was named as our key player almost everytime he was mentioned, unfortunately he just didn't produce a decent performance after the AI Club Semi final, his wides in particular at the end of the game against Tipp were terrible.

A lot of the praise for Galway earlier in the year was about how potent their forwards were and how they were all chipping in with many scores and not just relying on Canning. We don't have many forwards who step up and make big contributions to the side. The Galway side is full of absolute monsters as well that are able to win ball.
funnyname wrote: » Unfair in that Canning hasn't always been a superstar for Galway, so give Kelly a break, judge him after next year.
Clareman wrote: » I'm just comparing this year 1 match to another, in my opinion if Tony Kelly gave a last 20 minutes against Tipp as Joe Canning did Clare would have won
deaddonkey15 wrote: » You're being very harsh on Kelly. It's not as easy as just deciding to give a good last 20 mins. Canning was poor in the first half yesterday but the rest of the Galway side stepped up and kept them in it. They didn't hit stupid wides and they're keeper didn't pick out Tipp players for 3 or 4 puck outs before half time either.
Clareman wrote: » I watched the Tipp game back and 2 of the puck outs wasn't down to the goalie, the defenders totally missed the ball. I think the problem with a lot of our players is we aren't allowed be harsh on them, sure they're only young, sure they're on the road a lot, sure they whatever
deaddonkey15 wrote: » I'd agree with that but singling out Kelly is a bit harsh. When they were analysing Tipp before the game yesterday they were showing some clips from the Clare match in July. In one of the clips Conlon failed to rise the ball twice - the first attempt under little pressure. In another clip Cian Dillion had the ball in hand but somehow managed to lose ball and hurley as Tipp turned it over. Both resulted in points points conceded. Kelly was disappointing but we were riddled with mistakes all over the pitch in that game. If I recall correctly, Conlon hit one or two unforgivable wides for an inter county player.

Seriously though, hard to believe that Clare gave that Mayo team a serious game until the goals shifted things considerably. At half time that day in the park, I was thinking, "We could do this". Then again, Roscommon nearly beat them last week... P. S. Fair play to Mayo supporters. They always travel and are always loud and supportive. Saw a couple yesterday with 3 children including one in a buggy and no bother to them, all 5 and the buggy made it to Hogan stand without incident or inconvenience to others.

Sending off effected them although the Bridge were a bit better on the balance of play. Bridge are very focused, the are usually strongest on a bounce back year.

I think he will hit his stride over the next few weeks and give Cratloe a good chance, they have a team loaded with talent.
windy shepard henderson wrote: » cratloe and newmarket are huge dark horses , colin ryan is pretty much back to his best , scored 1-12 out of 1-18 tonight , inter county team needs him next year too , if he remains on form they will be very hard to stop they always have strong defensive sides and very hard to break down cratloes find of billy conners will be huge for there forward line , and having the likes of shane gleason and david collins playing well it takes huge pressure of the marque players , full back line a major concern for them , but with out a doubt the best forwards in the championship crusheens 15 minute mini revival in the second half leaves me to think they will have plenty to stay up , clarecastle in huge trouble i think
letowski wrote: » Strange to see Clarecastle go back so far, they didn't have a bad year last year. They have been competitive underage, very strong hurling community. Then it goes to show like with Kilmaley last year, you can have young talent coming through, doesn't always translate to senior straight away.
