Visa run....where shall I go?

So my 90 days in Malaysia will be up towards the end of September, which coincides with my birthday, so am thinking I will take a week and head off to somewhere to relax and enjoy getting older and then come back and have another 90 days that will do me til I go home for Christmas.

So where should I go?

I have been thinking maybe Thailand. Krabi has been drawing me (maybe coz of super cheap flights!) but maybe I should go somewhere else there?

Or do I go to Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos or Myanmar? Maybe I should go to China or Japan?

Ideally, I want something fairly cheap and am thinking a beach would be great.

I have already been to Bali and the Gili Islands, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal so somewhere that is not those would be a good shout.

Anyone who has been to these places tell me which would be your preference.

Cambodia is astonishing in terms of historical sites, culture, music and cuisine. It's one of the few places I've been where I was overwhelmed with the history. I'd strongly recommend going there.

On the other hand there is a breathtaking amount of extraordinary poverty. From the little girls on river boats with python snakes around their necks asking for "1 dollar mister" to take a photo of them, to the enormous number of crippled people from the wars in the 1970s. The children, or at best very young teenagers, offering sex to westerners as you walk down streets, the white male adults walking around with very young females, that even the respectable-looking massage places are actually brothels with again very young females working there was disturbing at a level I've never, ever experienced. Life is so cheap there and it really made me think about all the stuff we take for granted.

Am too old for the partying really though did give it a good shot in Bali. More looking for a week of chilling with a couple of beers and some live music.

This breaks my heart. I saw some heartbreaking sights in India and not sure am up to more at the moment.

Myanmar formally know as Burma. It was like Thailand 15 years ago and Cambodia 7 years ago.

Option 2- kl to somewhere in the Philippines. Really nice place.

Hadn't thought of the Philippines but that is a good shout. Just a little worried about the stability of it at the moment.

I'd be paranoid if I went there, that people would think I'm a nonce on tour, like Gary Glitter.

The Philippines is very safe just avoid the southern Island of Luzon, usually visa runs are designed to be cheap, quick and cheerful, which was my earlier recommendation of Singapore as it would be closed to you presuming you are in KL. Being in Malaysia you will benefit from finding low cost flights with AirAsia from their KLIA hub there.

Oh believe me Singapore and Indonesia will be used in future runs am sure but decided since its my birthday it would be nice to treat myself and go somewhere I haven't been yet and have a nice relaxing week. &#55357;&#56842;

I meant the Southern island of Mindanao in my earlier post, Luzon is the largest island in the North and is considered the mainland.

Is it really that bad? I'm going there for a week in September. only have flight booked from Bangkok at the moment. I may reconsider and go somewhere else instead.
